So a few months ago I watched Nosferatu which was good, despite having the monster be played by a guy I dislike.  Without spoiling too much I liked how it showed him as an actual monster.

Last night I saw the new Dracula: A Love Story movie and I mostly liked it, but there were parts I disliked that felt a bit campy/Disnified.  I also wasn't a fan of the ending either as it was basically a husband ignoring his wife's wishes and deciding what he thought was best for her.  LET WOMEN BE HAPPY DAMNIT!

I hope the upgrade comes with spoiler tags.

I assume you're talking about the new Nosferatu (unless you have secret beef with Max Schreck)? I liked it immensely and appreciated the changes Eggers made around Orlok to make him more authentic to a Slavic corpse. It's one of my favorite recent movies (but I'm also a major Eggers fangirl).

Another one that came out recently was Abigail, which is very loosely based on Carmilla. It's just the twist that's kept, and even that's changed. But I still liked the movie.

Yeah, the post is about new takes, so I'd say any movie within the past 20 years counts.  Technically they could get away with remaking Interview too (though they really shouldn't.) I'd really like it if they came up with new ideas though instead of just recycling old ones.  Hell I was thinking Dracula was a stretch, but other than what I said it was quite enjoyable.  I must admit I was very much of a fan of all the scenes where they basically tell god to go fuck himself.

Nosferatu was always quite silly to me because originally it was really just a story about Dracula for the German market, so really it's just a remake of the knockoff.  Not that it makes it bad, but it's just kind of funny to me that the English remake is going to be played with Deutsch subs or dubs.

There are a lot of halfassed 80s vampire movies that went over like lead balloons.  They should remake some of those.

I did go to a screening of the remake of Fright Night in the theater years ago.  It was in 3D but the bulb was turned down to save on lifetime hours.  That might not have been bad on its own, but the 3D glasses had a tint to them which made it too dark to really see anything.  I tried watching it without them but that just looked bad.  After some of the promoters were standing around and I complained to them about everything I just wrote, and the lady thanked me and said she'd take it under advisement.  Anyway I thought that one was pretty true to the original too.
