Guest Game of Chance Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 and I'm not sure what its worth...from old toys (Star Wars, GI Joe) to thousands of baseball cards...the Nintendo robot (which I heard is rare)...all kinds of stuff...is there a good way to determine the value of this stuff?? Like a book I can buy? I might be sitting on a gold mine...or 35 cents worth of stuff. I have no idea. At some point I'll be looking to unload this stuff, and I want to make sure I get a good price. Thanks.
Slept with ghost Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 that is a pretty good question i have things i know that are worth a good amount of money but i see them on ebay selling for hardly anything at all
bean Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Have you tried looking up the the stuff you have in ebay and seeing what others are selling the same type of stuff for? (sorry if that didn't make sence).
Lilith Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I just learned a very important lesson about ebay, even though the moment you look at some thing it may only be selling for $1. in the last few moment of the auction that can go up quick, People seem to wait till the last minute to bid. For examply I have a barry bonds base ball card that when i looked it up on current auctions it was selling for $1.oo and at the end of the auction it sold for $33.50. I should have tried to sell my card but i did not, that could have been my 33.50. If you are checking ebay for a general idea of what you might actualy get you have to look at closed auctions, not current ones. The current price on many of my items is discourageing but usually but the time it ends i am very pleased abouth te amount i sold it for. any how if you click advance search it will give you a check box to search completed items, this will give you a more accurate amount you could expect to get if you sold it on ebay. Oh n by the way i learned all of the above because of FC she is the ebay queen. lilith
Ginevra Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Depending on what the item is, you could also go to a local retailer as well. IE IF you have some old coins you want to offload, check out someone who sells coins but avoid pawn shops since they won't give you very much at all for anything.
Fierce Critter Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 I would have told you exactly what L&L told you. I didn't, 'cause she beat me to it. L&L - you learn well & quickly grasshopper... Yeah, GOC - check completed auctions. And keep in mind - sometimes you have to strike when the iron is hot. I had an old Korg keyboard that when I found it and looked it up 2 years ago, it wasn't worth more than $46.00. I ended up selling it earlier this year on eBay, hoping for that $46 - and got $180.00 'cause the guy is local and didn't have to worry about shipping. Also, sometimes the first person to the starting line wins. I had a Jaws model that a guy got $150 for. I sold it within days of his auction's end, and only got about $75.
