For Those of Us With Anxiety and Sleep Issues

First, I would like to give thanks to Mikielikesit for giving me the idea to try this. I was chatting with him online about some problems I was having, and he suggested I get some valerian. I have anxiety and sleep issues, and some other things I tried weren't working, so I tried this.

I went to the health food store and looked for valerian supplements. I found them, but wasn't willing to pay that much money for them. I found valerian w/ peppermint tea for a price I was more willing to pay.

I made the tea and drank it. Not too long after I felt really relaxed, like after taking a good dose of Valium. Then I got really sleepy. I went to sleep for 9 hours ( I normally get 3-5 hrs of sleep), without interruption (I normally wake up a million times when I sleep), and woke up very relaxed and very refreshed. I felt relaxed that whole day too.

So, for anyone with anxiety and/or sleep problems, I suggest valerian..just don't make any plans because it will knock your ass out!

Hope this works for other people!

I've taken this before and it does work fairly well. Unfortuantly I can't take it during the week because, like you said it will knock you out for 8+ hours easily, I wouldn't make it to work in the morning. Its great stuff and I would take it everyday if I didn't have to get up so early in the morning.

I too, have used Velarian Root extract extensivly. I have Divers which causes colon spasms and it is an anti spasmodic. I was taking Bentyl but it messes with your heart...eyes...and teeth.

So I started using Velarian and still keep some around for occasional use. I cannot take it allot as I have an irregular heart beat.

If you have any heart problems at all, it is not a good herb to use.

I actually had some problems with it messing with my heart big time.

I had to take it on an empty stomach for a few days once....

And at the end of the 3rd day had the most amazing feeling of calm come over me. And it stopped all of the annoying chatter in my brain...I mean just stopped it completely.

I wish I could feel that way all the time but it took too much to get there. The capsules don't work as well as the tea but the damn herb smells and tastes like stinky feet so I hate the tea!

I do LOVE Velarian.....so do cats. They LOVE it. And in small doses is safe for them. Like 1/4 teasp.

I always recommend a Valerian root infusion (tea) when the question of sleeping problems comes up on the board.

For some, valerian alone isn't enough. It's a type of sedative, but if you're troubled to the point where you can't relax enough to succumb to the effects of valerian, the addition of passion flower works wonders.

The Velerain tea with peppermint is tasty, because all I can taste is the peppermint (I have a hard time tsting things anyway). When I make it, the cat just about claws me to death, so I have to placate her with some catnip. And yeah, it's nice to actually sleep and be calm (I am always anxious about something). The stuff also helps with "the shakes," which is nice because it's really embarassing when your hands shake like crazy and you have to be around people. :blink
