Guest Game of Chance Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 According to yahoo, this is the genre of music that I most prefer. The bands in this genre include: Sonic Youth and Deerhoof I'll add more as I come across them Anyone know any other bands that might fit this parameter?
Paper Hearts Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I don't believe either of those bands would call themselves that. Sonic Youth might go with Lo Fi. It's just post modernism.

Paper Hearts Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 ah. I know of a band from the 90's that was a lot like Deerhoof...I'll get you the name on Monday-remembering back to like 94' is a bit difficult for me now.
Paper Hearts Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 The band I meant is called Smack Dab. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some members of Deerhoof were members of Smack Dab, previously-that's how similar they are. Smack Dab albums were kind of rare, even back in the early/mid 90s, they might be even harder to find now-but if Deerhoof falls into "Art Rock" category, then Smack Dab should be there, as well.
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 sweet. That yahoo launchcast is pretty cool. It has a lot of stuff that you wouldn't think that it would. I've learned about so many bands that I never listened to before from there. Its worth the $20 a year or whatever it is.

Paper Hearts Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 As far as I know, Smack Dab only released two albums (one in maybe like 1993 and then another in like 1994) I have the later recording on CD, I'll let you have a listen if you can't find anything from them (now that I have your curiosity piqued over them, I suppose I'd be obliged to); I haven't listened to them in ages and would like to throw them in once again, anyway. -Pretty fun stuff.
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 To be honest, yahoo has a very bizarre system of classifying bands by genre. For example, it has Queens of the Stone Age classified as (and I kid you not) Stoner. I don't know about you, but when I think of Stoner music I'm thinking Jerry Garcia or Steve Miller. So yeah, maybe.

Guest Game of Chance Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Ok maybe yahoo hired a bunch of stoners to compile that list. :laughing <{POST_SNAPBACK}> could be. Imagine my dilemma when searching for new bands in the same "genre"
soothsayer Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 It has to be a chore. All I can say is, never rely on a bunch of suits to know what is cool and what label most acts fall under. Search on my friend.
