apartments without credit checks

Only thing I can recommend is talking to a private landlord (IE renting a house). You might be able to talk to them "human to human" so to speak, and play on their sympathies.

There are several things you can do to at least be considered with a bad credit history.

First, do you at least have a good history of renting? Made rent payments on time, left the place in good condition when moving out, etc? If so, you could get a recommendation from former landlords. That goes a LONG way.

Another thing you can do is offer to pay several months rent upon moving in, on top of security deposits. My husband and I are in that boat right now. When looking at moving back to Michigan next year, we know we'll have to offer about 3 months rent up front, so we're preparing financially for that.

Most of the apartments I've lived in didn't do any sort of checks whatsoever. They didn't even call my employer to see if I worked there. I just gave them first and last months rent, signed the lease and moved in. It seems most places I know of in Hamtramck don't check anything.

I don't know if this is an acceptable option for you, but you could consider a roommate situation/renting a room. That's what I did most of the time when I lived in San Francisco.

It's significantly cheaper and you can get a much better neighborhood that way. Generally, a lot of master tenants are more interested in compatibility than credit rating. You do want to think about "can I live with these people?" but if you can eventually find a geek house with weekend LAN parties, then it's also kinda worth it.

You're probably better off using a roommate service; they tend to claim all the cheap listings; it's annoying, but there you go.

that's damn near 10% on a 30g house, on a 30 year your talking around $500.00 a month maybe $650.00-$700.00 with bad credit

More like $2,400. And we want to live in Wyandotte, where the average price for the type of home we want is $100,000.

We will need to wait a long time before we can buy a home. Our credit took a serious beating when we almost lost out home a couple years ago (we sold it and avoided foreclosure).

Also, we won't do a 30 year mortgage again. 15 year, with 20% down.

No, we need to rent for starters.
