gothicmom Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 What ever seems to fit my mood at the time. What I DON'T like is rap/hip hop and most country. Every once in a while I catch a song I like, although I'm not sure how that is, I rarely listen to the radio.
Angel Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I mostly listen to metal and hard rock. It can be old (Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Ozzy) or even some of the newer stuff. I have a softspot for Korn's first album and Slipknot's Vermilion. Cory Taylor sounds really good when he's not all out screaming. Atreyu isn't bad either.. Their cover of You Give Love a Bad Name is pretty sweet. If you're into metal/hard rock, I can recommend two things... The first is a local Detroit area band called One Day Remains... The guys are all good friends of my buddy Mitch, and despite the fact that they're all pretty young (I think the lead singer is like 17 max), they rock. If you can't find their stuff, PM me and I will see what I can do for ya. The second is a band called Avenged Sevenfold, who've been around for a while, but their new album City of Evil has a lot of really good songs on it. It's very rare that a new album impresses me this much. It's like each song is written just so they can showoff their awesome guitarists in a two minute long solo/duo in the middle. This band has some of the best guitars I have heard in years when it comes to new bands. Check 'em out. And espite what everyone says, Metallica still rocks... Saint Anger was actually a fairly decent song... Though I agree that Some Kind of Monster was craptacular. Others to check out: Superjoint Ritual As I Lay Dying Megadeth The Dillenger Escape Plan As for Punk/Hardcore: Slapshot is amazing. Anything on Old Tyme Hardcore is awesome. Exactly what kind of punk rock are you into? -John

Exactly what kind of punk rock are you into? -John <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A couple of good friends of mine in high school were really into Slapshot in high school. One of them ended up starting a hardcore record label, but I don't know if they're still around. They were also really into Earth Crisis. You like them?

Scary Guy Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 As far as country goes everyone should check out Ghoultown. As far as my tastes go http://www.last.fm/user/Scary_Guy/ and http://www.scary-guy.com/media/texts/playlists are good places to start.

Thats a huge breakdown there, and a nice span! I agree about emo as well. What people call emo now is not what emo was when the moniker was given. it would be hard to break it down to styles... my tastes just go everywhere. It all depends on how good the artisits are. It might be easier to just say I go from Skinny Puppy to Tori Amos Slayer to KMFDM (HED)pe to Iron Maiden Muddy Waters to Tricky The Doors to Mephiskapheles yes... it goes everywhere... I was rockin some Dio earlier while looking for my Razed in Black disc... to 45_Grave as well... What is Emo-Violence or Power-Violence? -Doug www.MarsDust.com
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Hmmm....... Gothic Industrial Techno Rock Alternative Metal And some other stuff.........
45_Grave Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Power Violence is a mixture of Punk influenced grindcore, and Thrash. Usually with quick time changes going from real fast paced to almost sludge like breakdowns. and Emo Violence is progressive and technical like traditional first wave Emo, with elements of Power Violence making it very chaotic at times, yet structured and emoitional at other times. Vocal qualities for both would be very harsh screeches to low growls and full on throaty yells all in full use in various parts of songs. Some example of Power-Violence would be - Capitolist Casualties, MK Ultra, Kung Fu Rick, Man is the Bastard, Vomit for Breakfast, and Drop Dead. Some examples of Emo-Violence would be - Takaru, Palatka, I, Robot, and Reversal of Man.
FarrIL Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Industrial Synthpop EBM Techno (( Most preferred....... Ayumi Hamasaki, DaRude, DJ Encore/Engelina )) Rock Soft Rock (( i.e. Celine Dion, Richard Marx )) Contemporary Instrumental (( i.e. David R Holsinger, Frank Ticheli )) New Age (( stuff you hear on Puremoods )) Ethereal Trance Darkwave Gothic Rock (( Birthday Massacre )) I'm not big on Metal or Hardcore, honestly. But I AM willing to give some bands a try, I've enjoyed listening to the occasional song from Bury Your Dead and Cradle of Filth. Aaannd, methinks that's about it.
