Intimidating Or No?

I was told by a former employer, as well as others that I am very intimidating. Do you think that you are? Do you know that you are? Do you just avoid people alltogether?

I've heard that I can be hard as nails and very cold/unemotional... as in "Ice Queen"...an ex called it "Going Clinical". I guess I learned it from my Mom who was an MD - got to hold it together at all costs when life is at stake.

It's funny. I know that I can be intimidating. I've done it (on purpose) when it was needed. I just don't think that my natural presence is intimidating at all. If anything, I'm laid back and friendly.

I scare people. I have actually heard "Mommy.. that mans's eyes.. they scare me."

I can't understand why, but people do seem intimidated by me, especially before they get to know me. Ages matter though.

My older daughter's (teenage) friends have told her things like "I wouldn't want to make your mom angry!" but my youngest daughter's friends (she's 8) loved it when I came to class and read them a story and when I help out at school they gather around me.

I've had people tell I have a very stern mean look to me when I'm just walking down the street, like I'm permanently pissed off. One guy told me I look like I could take a punch. (and I'm not sure what to think about all that).

I don't feel like I'm an unpleasant person but somehow before people get to know me I come across that way.

Same thing happens to me, Onyx. People say I look mean, and guys who were way bigger than me or older have said that I'm intimidating and I never understand it. I theorize that it has something to do with my height -- I'm almost 5'11". That doesn't make sense, but it seems to be the case.

i guess its just the diffence between the way i percieve myself and how others percieve me.

I've been told I have a look that shows I mean business. I'd rather not do that but if the situation or if a person is giving me shit, I will. I only do it though to iron things out, not make things worse.

I never thought so at 4 ft 10 but lately people say things...like 'oh look at her, isn't she scary looking?' Or: are you a satanist? Or, she looks ghetto.....I guess its all the black I wear. And my blue hair.

People say I have a pissed off look on my face which I guess is intimdating and unapproachable. I always considered myself having a neutral look.

i've been told that i'm intimidating. i don't think i am. then again, when all you do is just stare off into space, and someone disrupts me from my "zoning," then, i guess, i have a "piss off" look to me. even when i'm smiling, i've been told that i have a menecing look to me, which can also be intimidating. (wow! all this typing with one hand! yay me.) yay for intimidating people!

I've been told I'm unapproachable, but for different reasons, so that doesn't really count.

When I get irritated or vexed, people laugh. When I try to look intimidating, people laugh. Just generally, people laugh.
