I think Hostess is just about the sweets when it comes to pie. Maybe they don't want to spend the R&D on making shelf stable mincemeat pie?

yeah, the custard ones were the best...there was a vending machine at UofM hospital that continued to carry the custard pies for a few years after they dissapeared from stores...I'd visit it special for them, though I got to wondering from what pit of storage they were spawned from. :grin

Now, If I want my custard fix I have to rely on doughnuts with the filling and chocolate frosting.
