Tried & proven methods for lessening scarring?

I mentioned in another thread that a cat fell off our headboard this morning onto my face. Thanks to untrimmed claws, I have a slit running from just below the dark circle under my left eye, curving over and down to end at my left nostril.

I put a wet washcloth on it right away, and then some Neosporin. But I'd like some advice on techniques/products/remedies to keep the scarring at a minimum. I tend to not heal very cleanly.

I've heard vitamin E (slit open a gelcap and spread the contents directly on the cut) works well, and have had some success with it on burns. But I'd like to know if there's something you've used that works very well.

Also, my nutrition intake right now is horrible. I have prenatal vitamins & biotin I bought to help my hair grow. I think there is massive amounts of Vitamin C in there, so that might help, ya think?

Thanks for any advice. =(

Keep the area clean and dry, avoid sun exposure, take vitamin E in a low dose by mouth. I have heard that topical application of oil/vitamin E can aggravate skin healing.

I have allot of experience in this area....that scar cream works a little but the best thing is too stay out of the sun until it is completely gone and eat well.

Red and green veggies...berries....

Soy and eggs....you get the picture.

Thanks for the advice thusfar.

I have to take a bike trip into town here, and happen to have an herb shop at my disposal. Any recipes for poultices/ointments that might help?

honey or even better propalys(sp?) in the wound, cover and air it on occasion, perhaps putting an extra smear of the stuff on now and then

it will heal a lot quicker but also go back more or less perfect.

Silvadyne cream.... when I burnt my hands and arms up... thats what they gave me to keep them from scaring. I have no scars and old ones I had had since I was a kid went away. It's basically creamed silver...

If you can get an aloe vera plant and use the goo from the plant itself, that will help. It has helped me in the past, though I can't keep plants in the house because my nutzo cat will destroy them!

I have found that the scar stuff they sell in drugstores only works if you have fine, barely noticeable scars, and you have to wait for them to heal fully to use them.
