It's not easy picking one person. How about a top five?

That's Susan Dallion, actually. Silly Wikipedia.

She's got my vote, too, but also:

Nick Cave

Morrissey

Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins

Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- she's got spirit

Mick Jaggar

Agreed.

Well, when he was young.

Anything post 1984-85, and I'd say no.

best of any type of music? or just punk/industrial? from the topic i was thinking that but based on the actually posting it looks like it can be anyone...

so i have to go with some of my favorites:

robert smith

prince

sinead o'connor

bjork

natalie merchant

tons more but i will stick with "five" even though they might not be my TOP five. there is still five there.

ok i lied. now here is a list of favorites that i don't think most think are good and are more the "acquired" taste or something like that.

tom petty

robert plant

kurt cobain

stevie nicks

pat benetar

ok there is another five and i will leave it at that.

I like waaay too many types of music to narrow it down. This is a different kind of question than "best singer", my answers for which I'd probably be drummed off the board.

But one that crosses both lists would definitely be Freddy Mercury.
