Our laptop is 6GB. We have only about 500GB free.

I've removed as much as I possibly can off this machine, including large programs such as Photoshop, lots of games, etc. It seems no matter how much I remove, I'm not getting very far.

I need 15% resources free to run defrag - the best I've gotten is about 7%.

This laptop has Windows XP Pro on it. According to the specs, you only need about 1.5 GB to install it (varies depending on what components are added).

Is there a way I can print a directory of EVERYTHING that's on this computer so I can get an idea of what in the world is taking up all that drivespace? Better yet, is there a way to turn a detailed directory listing of EVERYTHING into a text document I can reference onscreen since hooking this up to a printer wouldn't be easy right now.

If I can get some help with that, I might be able to go from there. For now, I just want to see what is taking up so much space.

Thanks!

Open up a command prompt and type in:

cd \

dir c: /s >Directory.txt

This will do a directory search and all sub directories into the file called Directory.txt on the main part of C... I do not know how large this file will be as it will go thru every directory and put a entry in the file...

Reason it seems your not getting any where is that when you uninstall files it doesn't always uninstall everything from said program. dll's, save info, etc sometimes are left behind. Also a badly fragged hd also takes up free space as fragments of files will take up space. (ie a quarter file will take up the space a full file would in the block info, or in laymans terms a quarter full glass is a full glass as its seen by a OS)

Thanks. I'll have to wait to try that, though. A problem with the AC connection on the motherboard turned into a tragedy - basically I'm shopping for a new motherboard.

Sigh.
