Most movies will have no shock value anymore

All you have to do is turn on the news to see that sort of thing.

I'm still in shock at the extent of the damage and loss of life, and the way things deteriorated afterwards.

One thing that struck me is a story of a man who had his car taken away by an angry mob - it gave me chills because it reminded me so much of the carjacking scene from War of the Worlds.

It all seems so unreal, but it was and is really happening. I watch a lot of movies, and action and sci-fi movies are my favorite.

Sometimes I think I've been numbed to reality by Hollywood and the movie industry.

I think the psychological stuff is the scariest.... physical violence in movies has no effect on me at all... but mind violence is creepy to me.

I'm positive you will not suffer the effects of desensitization when you see a specific up and coming film.

You know.. this is the type of thing that allows people to control what we are allowed or not allowed to see on our TVs. I'm not saying it's a bad thing... maybe it is time to stop force feeding our children mega realistic violence with no consequences from such early ages.

the last movie that scared me was blocked from my memory because it was that scarry to me, I miss being 9 and scared, it's never happened since then. I feel like I've missed out on the excitement or however that's spelled of being affraid of something, it's what I get being raised by very strange people and watching the news all the time.

Movie dont have to scare me any more, considering the fact IRL people were in the middle of a major crisis and should have banded together but you have guys rapping little 3yr old girls and killing them, how could a movie scare me after hearing the police chief cry like a baby while describing what horror he saw IRL. I get chills just thinking about it. Real life is way more scary then a movie in which you know will end well, they all end well and if they dont you know to look for #2 of that particular movie.

Very true Lillith. I'm so freaked out by what happened I cant even begin to process it. And with a movie, you can walk away, and even feel stupid for wondering what happens to the characters but the shit thats been happening lately truly says something about humanity and who we are, and that can be too much to bear

Very true. One of my favorite genres is what I call mindfuck movies.

I remember picking up House of Yes, because I was in the mood for a comedy and I thought Parker Posey was hilarious in Best in Show. (and it was in the comedy section)

What a freaky movie! Mild mild violence, no nudity, and yet, it scared the crap out of me, because I was made to root for an act that I find absolutely repulsive to the core.

(FYI It was also the only good thing Freddie Prinze Jr ever did)

Those flicks are great.

I've got to agree that nothing much is shocking anymore because we can access just about anything we want online, information, news, propoganda (aka news), and all sorts of information, pictures, how-to's etc, that nothing is beyond our reach anymore.

The scary thing is that people still don't see the internet as 'real'. They see it as a magickal place where nothing real happens. the net is sometimes RL...depends on where you are, but the point is the access. Also, YES, the things shown on TV today include a lot of what you would never have seen even 20 years ago.

I'm not for censorship, but it certainly explains why our culture is almost immune to anything that was once considered shocking- we've mostly "seen it all" by now.

The Grudge was a good movie that scarred me. I'd invite u too over Onyx for movies at my place that I'm inviting people to, but you live so far away and I know its hard to get out this way. Killer Bunnie wanted to come I need to check to see if other people wanted to do a Sunday or Thursday non club nights but I'm open to other days like Mon or Tuesdays.

Thanks, yep that's a bit too far for me to make it out. It will likely be a while before I make it back to Detroit due to a few troubles in my life I'm working out.

That's a good idea for a get-together though for a non-club night. I bet it would be lots of fun to get a group together and relax and watch some movies.
