Just curious as to if anyone here is into Cronenberg's movies. I'd have to say he is my favorite director. He makes horror/sci fi with lots of weird gore.

Some of his movies are:

scanners (my favorite!)

existenz

the fly (1986 remake with jeff goldblum)

videodrome

dead ringers

the dead zone (christopher walken in a stephen king movie!)

Most of his stuff is from the 80's then in the 90's he did Madame Butterfly and a couple of other hollywood things but he returned in 1999 with Existenz which is similar to his 80's movies (gorey) and it stared Jude law, Willem Dafore and Jennifer Jason Leigh. He made a movie last year which apparently takes place in the head of a mental patient but I didn't see it yet.

Anyone else?

Yes I saw his part in Clive Barker's Nightbreed but didn't see the other one.

I am interested in seeing Cronenberg's earlier films called "The Brood" and another one, I forget the name right now.

So far I have yet to see those two, Naked Lunch (for some reason I am not interested in burroughs) and Spider.

Where can I get my hands on the DVD of SPider? Does Hollywood video carry it by any chance?

Probably HW Video would have it... although not a lot of copies, it has Joseph Fines, Gabrial Burne, and Miranda Richardson.

Also his first film "Shivers" or "The Parasite Murders" as it is sometimes called is good as well.

Yeah, Shivers was the one I was thinking of.

I like when He has an actual structured story to work with, like Scanners and The Dead Zone, and then just adds his weirdness (I know he wrote Scanners but it's an actual story).

As opposed to movies like Videodrome and Dead Ringers, where he seems to have an idea for some gore and bases the movie around those ideas.

so as an update I have seen:

Scanners

Videodrome

The Dead Zone

Dead Ringers

The Fly

Existenz

HAve yet to see:

Shivers

The Brood

Naked Lunch

Madame Butterfly

Spider

Scanners, as I've said above, is one of my favorite movies of all time. However even though it's awesome I wish they would have gotten a different lead actor, he's pretty wooden. Some of the dialog has holes in it as well. Still he makes way better movies than David Lynch.

I haven't seen any of the Scanners sequels, which is ok because Cronenberg himself said he never saw any of them.

Well I have to go to the videostore to see what they have.
