i actually hated the beastie boys for years. then in 1992 at city club they played "paul revere" by them. and i LOVED that song. from that day on i liked the beastie boys. i still hate stuff like no sleep til brooklyn and fight for your right to party. those songs are not even rap-like to me anyways. i think to this day paul revere is one of my favorite beastie boys songs.

I think your 20:1 good rap act ratio could be applied to any musical genre.  Except for its more like 100:1.

N.W.A. is one of my favorite rap groups ever. as far as that type of rap goes.

for funny rap, that would be sir mix a lot. and for dirty funny rap - 2 live crew.

for political rap - public enemy. though nwa can be considered political too. to me they are more gangster rap though.

then there is c-rap. that is just the crap on the radio i can not stand.
