What is the Strangest Music you listen too?

OK, most people think that almost all the music that "us types" listen to is strange. But I am talking about music that is so weird, that your weird friends think that you are weirder for listening to it; so strange that you catch yourself going "I can't believe I am listening to this... and enjoying it"

What are your choices?

Here are some of mine

The Residents

Merzbow

Coil

Final

Evolution Control Commitee

(to name a few)

Anything by Nick Cave is strange.

Especially if you listen to Nick Cave in the morning as your sort of 'here I am in another wonderful morning, trying to convince yourself' music.

Yes, I've tried it before.

New Age music like Enya, Enigma, Massive Attack and Delerium. Dude this stuff kick arse.

Also, on the Industrial side...........

I gave the band Throbbing Gristle a shot. Their song "Hamburger Lady" scares me. oO

For pure strange, I listen to Diamanda Galas. For "unusual" (I don't consider it strange, perse...Maybe strange for ME when you consider my main musical bloodline and passion), I will have to go with two...Blackmore's Night and Fleming and John.

Not to be a music nazi, but I'm not sure that I would consider Massive Attack to be in the same category as Enya. They're closer to Tricky or Portishead. I'm pretty sure that they're typically categorized as trip-hop.

btw...I like them a lot too.

Yes, and yes.

When I first got into Neubaten, it surprised me because some of their stuff is just refined noise especially their early-mid 80s work.

Yet, like fungus, they grow on you.

Futter mein ego! Futter Mein Ego! Futter Mein Ego! Futter Mein Ego! Futter Mein Ego!

(See, they're still growing) :laughing

I'd like to think my musical tastes are constantly evolving. I used to have fairly boring musical tastes as a kid. Each year I try to test the boundaries a little.

BTW, anyone heard of the musical style Fado???

It's apparently like this hundreds-years old Portuguese goth music.

I'm pretty curious about that.

Not all world music sounds like Enya :wink

Just found this on the web, BTW

Fado has been described as "a lament that is eternal."

(OK, now I'm REALLY hooked)

Fado means fate or destiny, a destiny suffused with existential tragedy.

The music shares a tangle of Arab, gypsy and European influences with Andalusian flamenco, but it is less percussive and more melodic than flamenco.

Fado contrasts pristine, elegantly fingerpicked counterpoint for guitar and the mandolinlike Portuguese guitarra with singing that merges refinement and searing emotionality.

Hey Eternal whatcha doin right now? :cheerful

Weird music?

*hmmm*

Probably these would raise a few eyebrows:

- Alexander Borodin: Prince Igor *has one of the most glorious entrace pieces*

- Cossack Patrol by Ivan Rebroff

- Maori War Chants

- Armenian Duduk folk music

- Constance Demby space music *a few CD's or so...cheesy yeah*

- Tanz Bruderchen/Hyperactive
