saechalyn Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Is it better to seek closure on a situation, or just let it go? Yes I'm being very general, so this question is semi-rhetorical...but answer anyway, if you are so inclined. I don't really feel like elaborating further :tear
Brenda Starrr Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Wow...... That depends on the situation, really. Sometimes, closure is sought but not satisfying. Sometimes letting it go is the same. I wish that I knew how to answer this..... I'm sorry that I can't.
torn asunder Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 closure, imo, only comes from your mind, when you're ready to move on, you will let it go. feeling a need for external validation for your closure isn't really helpful, and actively seeking it can be quite a detriment, in my experience. my suggestion? be strong - let it go, whatever it is. get on with your life, and soon, you'll find exactly what it is that you need... =) (then again, some people say i'm full of shit...) :erm :fear :whistling

Sounds good in theory ~ if I could only actually do it.
Shade Everdark Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Everyone's experiences are different--but I have to lean to the closure. I needed closure, and I was too afraid of seeking that absolution. Now, I won't ever get it, and it gnaws, sometimes.
Msterbeau Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Part of closure is the grieving process that needs to happen beforehand. Grieving can be short... or it can take a long time. We're all different, so circumstances will obviously vary. Another part is "connecting" with the emotional energy involved. Doing so facilitates bringing that emotion into a conscious (And in my experience, painfull) place. That pain needs to be experienced in this way in order to get beyond the trauma of the event in question. As my therapist said, until you resolve things in the conscious mind, it will continue to fester and cause problems. My feeling is that even deciding to "let it go" requires some amount of time and grieving to be fully accepted in our mind.
Dollardave Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Theoretically sometimes letting a situation ride itself out can end up in closure itself.
unchaste Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Closure, what's that? I never get closure And I never let anything go So I'm a pretty fucked up little girl.

Closure or letting go.... depends on the person and circumstances and the need for release.
Homicidalheathen Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Seeking closure just prolongs the agony. If it is over, it is over. Your mindset is up to you. Don't dwell.
