SomeDanGuy Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 For no good reason, I thought I'd share that I'm running in my first-ever timed race this Sunday (10/23). I figured I might as well start off ambitiously with the Detroit Free Press Half-Marathon. I've been running off and on, so I don't think I'll have trouble finishing. But damn has it gotten cold lately. It's going to be brutal at 7:45am. If anyone has a copy of the Detroit Free Press, my name should be in the Thursday edition =)
holliwood66 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 That's awesome Dan~ *sends you some good running juju*
saechalyn Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Don't get dead! It's against the rules!! Oh and good luck too :grin
Homicidalheathen Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 You'll be fine. Your young and healthy. Don't sweat it.
Msterbeau Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Do they allow bikes to ride alongside? I'd be tempted to keep you company if that were the case... 13 is an easy ride but I wouldn't even think of running it, due to an old injury.
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Damnit! I just threw that out! I would've kept that if I had looked at this sooner.

Only people with a race number and chip are allowed across the border.

SomeDanGuy Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 That was freakin great! Wow, I really loved running. I'm definitely going to do a race again. It's really cool having all these people standing by the course cheering and handing out drinks and stuff. The finish line was on Ford Field so I got walk around on the field afterward; probably my only chance to be down there. Man, it was cold and dark when the race started. 1:43:56 (just under 8min/mile) by my watch. We'll see what the official time is tomorrow. They track you by a little chip you wear in your shoe. Heh, it's only 10am and I feel like I've accomplished enough for the day. Time to watch a movie. :grin
Brenda Starrr Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I apologize for being so slow, but Way to go, Dan!!!
Lilith Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 That is one hell of an accomplishment........ You deserve a break and a movie. Good Job!
holliwood66 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Yay Dan! Congrats for finishing in good form~ Hey, time for another ice-cream burger to refuel eh??
Guest Game of Chance Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Congrats. May I offer you a cigarette? :grin
Msterbeau Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Congrats. May I offer you a cigarette? :grin Splendid Idea!!! :laughing :confused :doh I don't like running anymore.. too hard on my knees. But, if you ever want someone to train with, I'll ride alongside on my bike. (Or better yet, ride with me, if you have a bike too!) Congrats. 8 minute miles sound damn good to me over that long a distance.
SomeDanGuy Posted October 24, 2005 Author Posted October 24, 2005 I have a crappy bike. It's a big yellow one that my DAD rode when HE was in medical school. It's older than I am and the tires don't stay fully inflated for more than a week. I'd sort of like to stat riding though, as I think it would be cool to do a triathalon. The problem is, there just aren't many places to ride when you live downtown. I'd have to make a trek far from the city to be able to ride, and that's pretty time-consuming

Then again, there's our incentive to ride quickly. :blink :laughing
