I have no taste

For the last few days I can hardly taste anything. A serious bummer.

I have no idea why this has happened.

The thing I have read is that cinnamon can cause this, but I haven't had any.

I can taste a little bit on the sides and back of my tongue, but the front and tip there is nothing. It feels like it's burned. But I don't remember burning my tongue so bad that this would happen.

In fact, I've been able down a 1/2 dose of Nightquile without wanting to barf!

It's a big bummer when trying to cook! I try to t est the food and then I have to ask "is it good? I can't tell!"

I hate it!

Severe allergies can cause this.

If you can, I think this would warrant a visit to your doctor (or even a specialiast, an ear-nose-and-throat doc). It may be something fixable.

hrmmmm, thats a thought. Thanks.

I've had this happen before, but for a day or so.

That is odd. I have never had that happen.

As onyx said, allergies can cause this, even if you don't realize it. Or if you have a stuffy nose or dried out sinuses. It can all mess with your taste.

I've noticed if I have something too sweet/sour/spicy that it takes my sense of taste away.

I would so go to a doc pronto taste is important.

My sister lost her sense of smell in the early 90's. When it happened, she had suffered a viral infection, and ended up fainting at work and hitting her head. She's been through tons of testing, and examinations by neurologists, and it's inconclusive whether it was the infection or hit on the head that did it to her.

Gone away with her sense of smell is a lot of her ability to taste.

They say that you taste as much with your nose as you do with your tongue. So if you have a nasal or sinus blockage, that could be causing this.

I agree with the others - see a doctor.

Also, I have heard that Michael Hutchence, departed singer for INXS, also lost his sense of smell due to a viral infection. Bandmates think this possibly added to his sense of depression, as he was deep into sensory experiences such as fine food & wine.

How much IS your sense of smell affected right now? Can you smell coffee? Roses? Perfume? More subtle scents like vanilla, dirt, bark?

It's slowly coming back.

Last week I had sore throat and some sinus problems.

I've experienced bad sickness, but never loss of taste to this extent.

I haven't really paid attention to how well I can smell. Actually, now that I think of it my smell is good. I help my neighbor and when I go to her house it has this smell. A mix of coffee and something I can't figure out.

Yeah, my smell is great. When we were at the hockey game Saturday I had to move seats cuz the lady in front of me smelled rotten! Eewwww.

I give it a little while longer, then I will call the doc.

Thats just how I am.

I was thinking about this some more tonight.

It may be from one of these 2 things.

1. About a 2 months ago the doc started me on Amitriptylin, a generic form of Elavil, for daily migrain treatment.

2. She also gave me some Zomig-ZMT to take when I do have a migrain. I took my first one about 10 days ago. It's the only one I've taken. But I have noticably had this problem for about a week.
