n0Mad Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I love The Cruxshadows. I think it's mostly for the violin. Plus, they were my whole introduction to goth/synthpop/darkwave/industrial/ebm/etc. music so they will always have a spot in my heart no matter how good or bad they might be. Kinda like you always remember the person you lost your virginity to. Onto my opinion of over-rated bands: White Stripe, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, and the like.
Slept with ghost Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 My Chemical Romance <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I actually wouldnt call my chemical romance over rated they are one of my favorite bands and i will be the first to admit that they dont have any real talent they just make fun music and i fully agree with head wreck
Guest Megalicious Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I think that whole retro garage punk explosion was overrated for a year all I heard were the hive/vines/strokes/white stripes were the second coming a few years later only the white stripes remain also I think the nu metal explosion was overrated, there are select songs I can listen to, but overall Im really not into linkinpark/mudvayne/slipknot/korn (dont know if papa roach and limp bizkit fit in but they REALLY suck) For some reason I liked staind :blink (or at least their early stuff) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Strokes .... ewwww ... we all know they only got where they got to because of some spoiled brats daddy .... thats NOT music .. thats money ...
Slept with ghost Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 staind is to safe they are the type of band a middle aged housewife listens to to stay hip with modren music
phee Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Godsmack.... OK they were overrated, I haven't heard from them in a while, and 7 dust
Fierce Critter Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I never understood all the hubbub about The Pixies. I could never "get" what others "got" about them. And add to that bands like Sonic Youth, MudHoney, Meat Puppets, etc. All those "not Nirvana, but somehow related" bands. I had a couple Sonic Youth albums, both purchased for one song each. I really never could get into the rest of the albums, so I ended up ripping each of those songs onto my PC and sold off the CD's. Ditto Pixies. And while I'm at it - Courtney Love and Hole, L7, and the other grrrrl bands from the 90's. I guess I must be missing something. Or I'm just too much of a whore for a good voice, melody, and song structure.
n0Mad Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I guess I must be missing something. Or I'm just too much of a whore for a good voice, melody, and song structure. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope. I'm in the same boat. If music isn't musical, then it's just not music. In that vein, add to the list the entire genre of Hip-Hop.

I can't be as over generalized as to say that a whole genre... but I do get where you are comming from that 99.9% is overrated
n0Mad Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 True. In any genre I hate, even Hip-Hop, I'm sure I can find at least one or two songs where I think, "Hey, this is actually kinda cool."
