Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I figure with Phee going on vacation in Marseille and rayne having a weird fetish for spoken french, here's a little sample of what 4 years of French class taught me.

Of course:

Bonjour: Hello

Au revoir: Goodbye

Merci: Thank You

S'il vous plait: Please

Je vous en prie: You're welcome

Je suis de Detroit: I'm from Detroit

J'ai besion de faire pipi: I have to pee.

Questions:

Ou est le toilette/restaurant/hotel?: Where is the bathroom/restaurant/hotel?

Quelle heure est-il?: What time is it?

Que faites-vous comme metier?: What do you do for a living?

Pourquoi est-ce que to me deteste?: Why do you hate me?

Porquoi est-ce que vous sentez comme le poisson?: Why do you smell like fish?

Commands:

Donne-moi un sandwich et une biere.: Give me a sandwich and a beer.

Maintenant: Now.

Arretez!: Stop!

Compliments:

Je t'aime: I love you

Tu est belle/beau: You are beautiful/handsome.

Tu ne sente pas comme le poisson: You don't smell like fish.

This is all that I can think of off the top of my head, but if you want to learn how to say another word/phrase, just ask.

LOL!!! Good idea...

Don't forget the swear words... like "merde"....

Merde alors! : Shit then!

I could never get mey teacher to teach us the f-bombs, though

Posted

Merde alors! I can teach myself to speak it!

....would that mean it'd lose all it's fun though? :doh

Posted

Nope. It'd make it more fun!!!

You forgot the most common phrase that French people speak....

Je me rends

Posted

Um... to where? Or what?

Posted

Normally to anyone that threatens them in anyway. I will admit I'm surprised they ahve not said it this week.

Posted

I only took it for 2 years. And forgot most of it.

Puis je allez a la double-vaysay? Was probably the most important thing I learned. "Can I go to the water closet (toilet)?"

Posted

I took 4 years of it and just remember the basics.

All this french talk is making me wet. :blushing

My parents are (were) French-Canadian. Most of what I learned was as a small child before i went to school. That and what I picked up listening to them in the house over the years....

:fear Nanika atta?

Kogoeru youni samui ken tsukarechatta.

Dakara, ittekimasu.

Oyasuminasai.

"What's up?

It's freezing and I'm tired.

So, I am leaving.

Goodnight."

...japanese :fear

the only thing i remember when i took french was when i said "i feel like a dirty american" when the class got quiet for that few seconds and we had a visitor from france and when i did a skit from Half Bake when Bryan does that scene after they just smoked and he gives off that huge list of food.. you all know the scene... try memorizing that all in french... it was well worth the A+.. i think my teach loved the stoned french guy acting... lmao

Posted

I didn't understand any of that, but then again, it's all French to me. LOL.

VyRiZ - I'm trying to teach myself Japanese. It's slow going. I really should take classes someday.

I have a cat in my pants: J ai un chat dans mes pantalon

and the most common sentence I heard when we went to france during the summer of 2003 was:

les touristes americains stupides: the stupid american tourists

Trust me they really do hate us. When we went it was also during the prime of the USA and France battleing over the weapons of mass destrustion in Iraq, so I am sure that didn't help matters any.
