saechalyn Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 My head has been throbbing for the past 2 hours. I've never had a migraine before (that I know of) but I wonder if this is one because looking at the (BRIGHT BRIGHT OMG BRIGHT) snow outside my window is like an icepick to the side of my head. Just wanted to whine.
Fierce Critter Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 This is just an idea. But if you've never had migraines before, you might want to consider having your eyeglass prescription checked. Before I got glasses, I was experiencing serious head pains a couple years ago. Not headaches - PAINS. Throbbing, shooting pains that eventually ended up so bad Jon took me to the ER where they checked me for a possible aneurysm. After a spinal tap and CAT scan came up with nothing, I was told to consult with my primary care MD, who misdiagnosed me as having type 2 diabetes. I don't recall how I figured out it was my eyes. But I got my first-ever glasses, and the pain went away almost overnight, and have been gone ever since. Turns out I have astigmatism in both eyes, without a hint of near or farsightedness. But the constant focusing & refocusing of the 2 focal points in my eyes eventually just became more than I could handle (this was also at a time in my life when I was extremely despressive & spent well over 8 hours a day in front of the monitor.) I am still amazed that simple eyestrain could end up that painful. I'm very much not one to run to the ER for everything and anything - but I really honestly did fear I was in serious danger.
Onyx Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 That's a really good suggestion about the eye check. I've had headaches triggered by that also. That light sensitivity does sound like what I get with migraines though. I also get nausea and sometimes vomiting, but only with the full-blown ones. I hope you feel better soon!
saechalyn Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 Thanks ladies. I'm pretty sure it's not my vision since I had an eye exam not too long ago and my prescription has been pretty much the same for the last 10 years. The worst of it has lifted, though I still have a headache. Blargh.
Nienna Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 When I'm having a migrane I also get pretty confused, on top of the light and sound sensitivity.
Daevion Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I've had migraines before and they really suck......to the point where i couldn't function at all.....try taking about 4 IBprofins....that was the only thing that worked for me
gothicmom Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I have a sensitivity to sunlight. I have to wear sunglasses at dusk and on dark rainy days. My dad is the same way. The sun reflecting off of snow and the white house is a killer. Different than my migrains I get. I only get those every 28 days or so-lovely. If you have a desk by a window maybe get some lightly tinted sunglasses, so you don't look like a Cory Hart wannabe! Which is what I think when wearing my sunglasses at dusk!
Homicidalheathen Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I gave up caffine and alcohol and mine went away. I started up again and they are comming back.......guess I have to be good or else!

saechalyn Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Thanks everybody. I'm guessing in retrospect it was probably not a migraine just a really bad headache.
