Fierce Critter Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Oh. Well, that changes things a bit. While it really would be EXTREMELY cool to have an original song played at an event like that, perhaps holding out for Volume. II when more time can be put into making something of good quality wouldn't be such a bad thing. Still, BlackSunday, if you'd still like to work with me on this, I welcome it. Vol 1 or 2, it'd just be exciting to do something different with my sound.
Fierce Critter Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I myself would love to hear that.

While the CD's will be given to each of the DJ's and they "could" play some of it if they like...would be nice, but we will allow them to play what they feel best suits their style as performers in their own right. Actually, part of the intent is to use the CDs as merch to be purchased at the event, something to take home and own a piece of DGN.

phee Posted January 17, 2005 Author Posted January 17, 2005 I am sorry for the confusion, I would like everything in the mail to give Mister Firewerk the CD's by the first, so that if there are any mail misshaps it will give us enough time. We also have no content checks at this time, I think that will be OK if Mr. Firewerk can be the final check, if he is cool with that, just trying to give each arist the same amount of time.

Marblez Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 If you live in the Metro-Detroit/Ann Arbor Area, I will be willing to meet with you to pick up your CD in person if you prefer. I will likely be at Necto next Monday if that works too.
spacin Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 Sounds good. Marblez has a copy of my last album, I'll be letting her know which songs I would prefer to hear on it.

sinmantyx Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 wow... This sounds wonderful. I haven't been very active on DGN, but I'm very motivated to know that DGN is supporting local musicians/composers. I've been somewhat active among the noise crowd. If there is a vol. 2 will it be next year, so that the CD will be annual?...or will Vol. 2 appear if/when Vol. 1 is a success? sinmantyx
sinmantyx Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Unless things have changed a lot in the last few years (it happens), duplication is "burned" and replicated is "pressed". Pressed is higher quality, but frankly generally not neccesary if the burning is good. Usually you only press a CD if you are making more than 1000 of them. (You may want to insist on silver backed CDs and not the greenish kind, there are differences in the CD, not just burning.) Before you go through any company, ask for a few samples of their previous work. The quality of printing (especially) is very different depending on who you go through. I'm sure I don't need to say this....but make sure there is a guarantee. If there is something wrong, every CD could be a coaster and they could insist that the master was flawed....or some such BS. So get a contract protecting you from that. Also, ask what their error rate is, and if they are going to test the CDs before sending them out. That's my advice....but I haven't organized a comp CD in 3 years....so who knows? Good luck with everything. Sounds great. sinmantyx PS: Another thing that mastering does is make sure that every song is at a high/standard level. You can tell a poorly mastered CD if some tracks seem louder or softer than other tracks. Mastering may be an art...but frankly it's not that difficult. ProTools people are just snobs. *grin* $100 is an excellent price though. Marblez Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 We have not put much effort into Vol 2. I do know that there are plenty who would liked to be on this one if they had the advanced notice. If Vol 1 ends up being a total flop, we will reconsider the idea, but I don't think that will happen. Annual sounds good, but we may do it sooner, no less than 6 mos if submissions are ready.
spacin Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I can't wait to hear the finished product. How will copies be obtained? Just order them off of the DGN site?
