well.....

I'm mentoring a young kid (19) who confirmed my suspicions last night, he's on the shit. He wrecked his car, called me, sat down and cried and told me he's been on Heroin for some time now.

he's out on his own, living from couch to couch, the typical story that once was my own story back in LA.

we made a deal to get him in rehab.

Only I'm still new here - I dont know of any places other than going thru the yellow pages.

anybody have any ideas? I need to move fast....

You can see if the state listings, in the phone book help at all, Thats all I can think of,hope you are able to help him.

I would call the county substance abuse/mental health hot line and see what they recommend. THe phone book should have that # listed under you county government section. They will usually reffer you to some place who is willing to work with price and situation.

Being my one experience with this sort of thing was corrected by a BABY comming i have no idea what else to really suggest.

Good luck and dont forget to look out for you n yours while helping, i am sure you know what drama could come up in situations like this. Just keep you safe.

It's an substance abuse treatment center.

Have you searched the Internets?

I think he is looking for a recommendation so as to know what programs are actually good.

Sadly I have no advice. Good luck to you Steven, you're a good soul.

Oakwood.

Honest best bet.

I will pull out all my old paperwork tomorrow after work.

Unfortunately most are outpatient treatments or single mother treatment centers.

I got my friend committed. She got help for her depression which is why she chose heroin and got off the dope.

Yes. But sometimes getting through all the tape is difficult.

Hi folks.

Yestereday I spoke with Sean (the kid I told you about). He's going into rehab Tuesday. He actually did all the legwork himself, which impressed me. Were meeting on Sunday to discuss and touch base. Thank you for being sohelpful all of you.

Jesi - I miss you.

The fact that he did the legwork himself makes the situation sound hopeful, even if it doesn't at the moment.

Yes, that was impressive - it is good to know that he wants help. Next, you might wanna consider trying to get him into Job Corps!! But thats just my personal opinion.

Steven, I am glad your friend is taking these steps. His doing the legwork shows his commitment to this and your strength as his friend will help him thru the rough times.

you ladies are quite insightful..... Job Corp. is allready inthe works, again something he came up with on his own. He's still an addict though - and although hes made impressive steps he's also making some other bad decisions that have me a bit frustrated. One must get to the bottom of the conditioning that led one into addicition.... so often we treat the addiction as the be all end all..... this kid is incredibly charming and smart, which makes him quite viscuous...... we had a couple of decisions he made that were deal breakers this past week. I'm trying to find a balanced approach in tough love here..... I may have to walk away for a bit in an effort to force a bit of responsibility into things. Its delicate. His father was/is a complete uninvolved wimp - which creates trust issues.

fear and loathing. you can trust a man but never trust a drug especialy when it's pointing a razor sharp hunting knife at you.
