bav Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Best Buy in Ann Arbor is pretty overstocked on Western Digital 80GB hard drives right now, so they have a $60 rebate on them until Saturday. They are out the door for $90, but with the rebate, its seems to be a pretty good deal. Just FYI for anyone suffering from not enough storage space.
Fierce Critter Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Holy crap. Wish I lived near there. I wonder if they would even work in my HP Pavilion. I think there's room to add a 2nd hard drive, but I'm not sure.
Ginevra Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 From what bit I know about hardware for 'puters, it should. But I'm sure one of our resident gurus could answer this more adequately than I.
The_Dark Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Many Pavillions don't have a spot to physically mount a second hard drive. It really depeonds on the machine. Also, WD 80GB drives have a high failure rate. At least in my experiance they do.
Lilith Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 lol i cant let brian see this thread or he will want to take a road trip and spend spend spend ....... A side note if you do have a little extra cash it might be worth picking up a few extra of these seeling them on ebay for a reasonable price but over what you actually paid...... I kinda stole that idea from one of critters posts actually she got cloths and did something similar i just used the same idea for hard drives...... any how as far as failure rate brian and i have allways used WD hard drives but have never used an 80 gig one, any how other then the 80gig one ( cause we never used it so i have no idea if it is difrrent) we have never had any problems lol we actually have our orginal 10 giger that was oh so freakin huge when we got it and it works well in the kids pc any how just my thoughts
Soulrev Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 been using a WD 80g for about 14 months or more, no problems at all..
Fierce Critter Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Good idea on eBay L&L. However, it's $30 after REBATE. Meaning an initial investment of $90. And no guarantee you'll even get your $30, unless you do a set-price auction. We generally dont' like to invest more than $10 on any item we sell, lest we risk spending more than we make. Unless it's an absolutely sure sell.
Dubh Aingeal Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 I'm sure if you waited say a month for this to die down you could probably make back your invest as they would be back to original prices...
Fierce Critter Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 We were discussing my frustration at how our current 533 mHzCeleron/64k RAM/10 GB HD is not cooperating with my attempts at building a song with Fruityloops at dinner. We decided to go to Best Buy near here and see if they're running the same special, and pick up some more ram while we were at it. Turns out they're all running that special. But the one we went to only had one left on the shelf, so they're going quick. Anyway, we decided to empty the savings account and get an entire new PC instead, so we're going to Tiger Direct in Raleigh tomorrow and getting this:Our new PC. Jon works with a guy who works on computers and will install an OS for us. We're also going to have them leave out the modem 'cause we just put a new one in the HP that we can switch out, if it'll save a few more $$. Sucks to empty the savings when we just started it. But a better system will also make my eBaying easier, so we'll have our "move back to Michigan" fund replenished soon enough.
Lilith Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 i know it is a bummer to spend the money, but in my experiance the right tool for your job, tends to make your job easier, so withte right tool you do your job better/quicker/ easier hence being able to double production and make more then what you were befor. (did that sound ok?) any how my point is withthe new pc i am sure you are going to replace the money and be able to double it quickly. harm
Soulrev Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Kind of like me.. Yeah, those specialty tools cost a shit-ton but if it means I can fix cars faster I get to fix more cars and make more money.. This is especially true for technicians, we get paid by "book time" so if a camshaft swap on a Chevy Truck is supposed to take 6 hours and I get it done in 3, I still get paid for 6 hours plus have all that extra time to do something else.. Downfall is if something is supposed to take 6 hours and I take 8 hours to actually do it, I'd still get paid for 6..
