AstralCrux Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I was in Barnes and Noble looking for something new and was thinking to myself, hmmm.... book club sounds fun. I picked up Dostoevsky's "The Possessed" although I'm not sure everyone would want to read it. The question is, would you join a book club and would you rather have it online (so we can all post whore) or meet at like a coffee shop and chat in person.
Shade Everdark Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'd be on that like a drunken yuppie on a stripper.
AstralCrux Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 would you still talk about the book with us St. Masey? Do we want to post whore or meet in person?
AstralCrux Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 hmmmm.... I should start a poll, but I'm betting we'll end up post whoring.
GreggZero Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I can't read.hurts my neck and arms and hands and for some reason I always gotta piss
Ginevra Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 The only drawback to meeting in person would be that many DGN'ers are spread to the four corners of the state and beyond (Hi, HW & Mallochi! :grin) Beyond that, I think meeting maybe, every two months would be fine. Well, and then there's the book purchases, too, unless someone just floats around the book that is to be discussed until all the members have read it. Could take a while. :doh

AstralCrux Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 Yeah, post whoring sounds more likely....
AstralCrux Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 I like ScaryGuy's suggestion to do both. I pick that one! I believe it should not be a problem to find the book in the library for any of us that don't want to shell out the $$ for a new book. Can't blame ya, they can get expensive.
AstralCrux Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 My copy has a good foreward, a history into Dostoevsky's past, and notes in the back.... Should be ok.
phee Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I can't read *Phee cries and runs around the room* I mean... OK
pharoh Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I can't read *Phee cries and runs around the room* I mean... OK <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Phee needs a book with popups and pull tabs in it
Marblez Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Phee needs a book with popups and pull tabs in it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He could always cut a hole in the middle and ask Rayne to turn the pages.... lol!
phee Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 He could always cut a hole in the middle and ask Rayne to turn the pages.... lol! These are great ideas... thanks all
Marblez Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 SO how does this work? Do we read the whole book or a selection of chapters per week.... I kind of like the little bit at a time idea myself.
phee Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 SO how does this work? Do we read the whole book or a selection of chapters per week.... I kind of like the little bit at a time idea myself. I don't know... we should figure this out
AstralCrux Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 I would say- read entire book, but keep a notebook or ms word doc or something for discussion. Whatever in the book peaks your interest.
TomCat Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 perhaps...will there be trashy smut laced drama? LOL
AstralCrux Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 You never know, the last book I read by him had prostitutes.
Rayne Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 He could always cut a hole in the middle and ask Rayne to turn the pages.... lol! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *giggle* ... :innocent
cptdeath Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 i fully endorse the book club. aybee we need some more organization to this to select books to read. it has to be fun or it will not work out. in person meetings for me and other dgn ers has allways left me feeling akward as some of you know me here and are comfy to listen and chat but in person my eagerness to make friends is intimidating and scary so i would prefer to only read the post whoring. if the book club further down the road was like marc dude come hang out with us then i would be down. but unless approached i'll stick to typing. just for purpose not everybody is uncool can you know this quote demons, demon is short for demension traveler. i got old friends who did a book club that i just started seing again they read all the ann rice and white oleander an well gotta stay fly se ya all
