Seeing how life has gone for me so far I suppose this will be me someday.. I'm not allowed to die for whatever fucked up reason. Even tried killing myself once..

Don't any of you try and pretend that you never assumed someone was dead and buried them, only to find that they were still alive and they now stalk you for revenge. I know I'm not the only one.

AM I? :unhappy:

You think I'm joking?

You know that last scene in the movie "Carrie" where her hand comes up from the grave?

That was actual footage from my backyard.

  Just Kiddin!

I like to make sure they're dead first. If they're not, a good knock on the head with a shovel oughta do it.

Oookkkaaay. Car accident. Guy looks dead. Send him to the morgue. Don't bother to check to see if he is *really* dead. I am shocked that not only the EMTs did this but even the Medical Examiner???!!! :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

AND they suspended them?

I would think that warrants firing them on the spot!

I'm avoiding driving through North Carolina next time I'm traveling!

Used to be a common thing in ages past. Its a positive , that this is "rare" and seems bizzare nowadays.

I couldn't imagine! I read this story once by Steven King about a guy who was about to be atospied on and was still alive. Talk about a real life horror story...*grimace*

What story was that Fallenon?

I can't remember the name, but it was a short story in one of his collective works...I'll look it up and post back for you.

In "olden times", this is actually how some of the vampire and zombie myths began. People would be declared dead but would be so comatose that most physicians couldn't hear their heartbeat with the archaic instruments of the day. Thus, they were/or started to be buried, miraculously arise from the dead only to be declared a vampire, a zombie or a demon returned from the dead. In older graveyards that are discovered under buildings when they are torn down, coffins have frequently exhibited clear evidence that people were buried alive a lot more often than we care to think. *shudder*

Yes, I'll agree with Troy. In today's day and age, it's just plain bizarre that someone should be in the morgue and sitting upright under their own power before someone decides they're *not* dead.

Thanks Fallenon!

Why, living in NC for 3 years now, am I not surprised by this?

It's all over the news every damned day. Talk about who's getting sued, who's not, blah blah blah.

Trivia: I forget the exact history, but the origin of a "wake" stems from the practice of someone having to stay "awake" with the recently deceased to be sure they really are dead and don't "wake up". Or something like that - too lazy to look up a better explanation right now. :wink :
