I know, I'm usually the last one to see a movie cause I wait until it comes out on DVD.

I saw this movie over the weekend. Twice.

This movie has disturbed me greatly. For one: I don't LIKE to believe there is demonism, satanism, possession, etc....

I know it exists, I choose to ignor it.

2: I don't understand it. Again, I choose not to. It scares me, to be quite honest.

I've never researched this phoenominon. I have done a little bit of reading today, and it has my panties in a bunch.

Freaked out if you will.

WHat are your thoughts on this topic?

Well...

I had a problem with the spiritual aspect of this movie for a few reasons...

In the movie the "evil" would always happen at a paticular time of the evening... OK... um, so what if she moved to a new time zone? would the evil obey her current time zone? and do they attention to the practice of daylight savings? because um... yeah.

Also do spirits that do things on certain dates (like on the 5th of May every year... the ghost of the mailman rapes my little brother for example) obey things like leap year? or would they be one day off that year?

I loved this movie.

One of the reasons because it gets a person thinking about Spiritualism, Demons, Possession and things like that.

I am a firm believer in Demons and Possession, I've never experienced them but I've heard and read about them and believe that it is quite possible to be victimized by it.

I believe that Demons exist, as does evil. And I also believe that if a person has 'other senses' running through their family, or beliefs in other senses and beings, then they are already susceptable to more.

I believe in ghosts and have had my experiences. As for Possession? No. But my beliefs have driven me to do more research on what's possible and what might be out there.... hence why I splurged and bought a ton of bargain books last Friday, including an encyclopedia about Witchcraft and terms. It doesnt explain how to perform rituals, it merely explains what's what in certain religions.

Well mine wasn't as bad as stevens, but it was a definate learning experience, and I will do it again any time that I am requested to, but never alone, to many chances to make things worse than they were or are...

If I ever had the chance, and the knowledge and I was even remotely prepared for what might occur during an Exorcism, sure, I'd try to help.

But I dont want to tempt a spirit or demon or entity into possessing me or a friend. I know that beings can do anything and everything they want to a body, so therefore, I sure as hell wouldnt want to tempt them whatsoever.

I have been doing a bit of research on the whole Spiritism/demonism/possession thing ever since I saw this movie.

It has touched me that much.

Looking at the scientific aspect of it, it can be noted that it is possible that it was epilepsy, schizophrenia, phsycotic episodes brought on my epilepsy, etc...sure I can believe that. However with reading up on the medical examinations and what not, she had been taking "Anti _____" fill in the blanks... for a few years and was still having these episodes. It was when the episodes got worse and the medical treatment wasn't working that the Family and Annelies Michael asked for the Exorcsism....

I had been reading up on the religious aspect of it. Possession is a real thing among MANY christian faiths, as well as non-christian faiths.

There are several accounts of possession biblically. Jesus would lay his hands upon the sick person and the demons would transfer to nearby swine....and in process it describes that the actions of the possessed were of the same nature as what this story states how Anneliese acted....ie screaming for hours on end, self-mutualtion, voices, seeing things, faces, shadows, speaking in unknown languages, being restrained and having enough strength to break chains...etc...

This is a whole new subject matter for me. I had kind of just avoided the subject out of fear. But now, after seeing this, this has struck my interest greatly.

Cause if I ever saw anything, I would probably die instantly from fear alone. I felt if I knew about it, they would come for me.....so I avoided it completely.

Does that sound out of whack? Does that sound ridiculous? I'm sure it does. But this subject scares me a lot.

I lived in a house in Mt. Pleasant for about 3 years. For the first year... things were fine. Odd things happened but nothing too.. Well... disturbing. There was a small room upstairs. We didn’t use it for that first year for anything. It sat empty except for a bed that no one could/would sleep in. We did try to get the kids to sleep in there, even tried using for a guest room. No one would stay in the room. You never felt alone. Still, nothing bad ever happened. So, the room sat empty. Then.. well.. I started using it for an office. This seemed to piss something off. There is no other way to explain it... something wanted me out of that room. We started hearing a baby cry when the house was still. Cold breezes and whispering we could not really understand. Lights turning off and on of their own accord. Still, we were cool with it, nothing bad.. just a minor haunting. then.. one night...

Shit hit the fan.

I was getting ready to go to the store for some munchies and smokes. The stairway from the upper level ended right at the front door with a window in between. This is also where we had a coat rack. I was standing there putting my coat on and thought "How odd, it's completely dark upstairs" There was a street light that should have been shining in an upstairs window and illuminating the stairway. There was also a smell of putrid meat. I assumed that when the boys had taken out the trash they had put the container right under the window. When I got to the car I noticed that I was wrong in that assumption and made a mental note to find what ever it was that was causing the smell.

When I got back from my store run, the whole family was huddled on the couch with looks of abject terror on their faces. I realized I could see my breath and the stench was so powerful I was gagging. I moved to my family and the stench and cold went away. It seemed to be centered at the base of the stairs. My wife looked at me and said “There is something on the stairs.” I gathered up my boys and took them out the back door and took them to a friend’s house. On the way my wife and son explained what had happened after I left. My son was going to go upstairs to get a blanket, when he got the bottom of the stairs he commented on the stench and how cold it was. When my wife saw his breath she asked him to move away from that area. As he walked away.. something grabbed at him. Kim said it looked like an really old persons hand.. pale and bony with long finger nails. She gathered up the boys and sat them on the couch and grabbed a base ball bat thinking someone had broken in… As she neared the stairway.. the hand came out of the dark again… motioning for her to come to it. She decided that was bad and went back to sit with the boys and await my return.

So, I called my best friend. He’s ½ Navaho and spent years on a reservation learning “the old ways”. He’s, for lack of a better term, a shaman. He came over the next day and performed a ritual on the house to drive out the spirit/s. it seemed to work. We never had another problem and a lot of the little odd things that had always happened in the house stopped.

I can only say and as much as I hate to even type it, say it, cause I feel like there is a presence over me and if I say it or type it, it might know my fears and take advantage of that, that I do feel a presence. All the time....well most of the time. I don't know if it just an over active imagination or if there is something. I will try to describe it as best I can.

I feel overwhelming fear. Like I just want to hide under the blanket and not open my eyes. I feel it mostly when I am alone. It is such an intense fear that I will go out of the room as fast as I can wherever I am at the moment I feel it.

Is there a false sense of GOD? I feel like GOD is present all the time, but that's not a bad feeling. The bad feeling comes and when it comes it is so frightening. Nothing says anything, I've never seen anything, or smelled anything, or even felt anything (coldness/seeing breath). I just sense it. Perhaps maybe that throughout my life with knowing things and hearing things about such, perhaps that my fears are suggestive to that of a spritual presence.....maybe it is overactive imagination??? Maybe not. I am certainly not open to it and I researched that you have to be willing in order for a spirit / demon to invade....if I read that correctly...?

Wow. It's fantastic that a movie sparked all this discussion. Good stuff.

To speak about the film itself for a moment: the director did a very good job, in my estimation, of presenting the possession as a possibility, yet not a certainty. And, quite honestly, Tom Wilkinson? He turns in a surprisingly meaningful, yet understated performance here. I hope we'll be seeing more of him in a more leading-role sense.

As to possession and exorcism in general, I know some people are going to take this the wrong way, but I don't believe in it. It is not something I have had remotely any experience with directly, and those who I've spoken to in the past (let me reiterate: in the past) who have claimed to be party to supernatural experiences have invariably been lying in order to get attention. Thus, I remain highly skeptical.
