Take Your Meds So We Can Kill You

Yeah, I know it sounds wrong in so many ways, but I'm sick of these inhuman monsters getting away with murder by whining about mental problems where there is not a shadow of a doubt that they did it.

yeah...they "Act" very well at being not well

people can be very convincing at being crazy when they are not. They just know the system too well.

I'd agree with this only if he was in his right mind when he committed the original crime.

Then again Primal Fear was a good movie. Though he wasn't acting insane, just retarted.

Let me ask this: do sociopaths deserve the death penalty?

They are generally considered mentally unstable, comprise quite a few serial killers, if I remember correctly, and are often times very good actors, and can be very charming.

For myself, I'm against the death penalty for both economic and ethical reasons. Prison is supposed to be about both punishment and reflection. Life imprisonment seems more fitting (yes, I do not agree with free cable and gym equipment, etc.--solitary with access to books and whatever exercise they can conjure in the yard) a punishment than just killing them. Of course, I don't believe in the idea of hell and eternal punishment in the afterlife (what afterlife?) so that probably explains it.

Sociopaths know the differance between "right" and "wrong". That is the benchmark theey have to pass or fail.

And I've seen definitions on both sides, that claim sociopaths do have a moral compass, or do not. It seems to depends a lot upon who you ask.

That may be because so many people confuse not having a moral compass with not having morals. Sociopaths don't care if what they are doing is "wrong", illegal or just plain sick. Thats not the same as not knowing it at all.

This is true... there is a big difference between "I don't know" and "I don't care"

I'm not a punishment-oriented person, unless of course I'm allowed to do it myself, which I won't be for a couple years now ;x

A pretty significant number of sociopaths could be rehabilitated, but they would need decent psychologists, and if you're a decent psychologist you're probably working for yourself rather than in a correctional institution. This would be preferable to killing, and could be done in conjuction with jail.

Jail is more of a way to keep people off the streets rather than prevent them from doing wrong things in the future. The prison population often have nowhere to go once they're let out, so the return to a life of crime is inevitable. The ones with serious mental problems, however, should be relegated to mental hospitals.

I mean, seriously, regardless of how heartless they are, they're still a product of their own pain. Making them suffer more doesn't help anyone except for sadistic bastards and, of course, Bubba, who loves fresh meat ;) . Keep them separated from society, but don't make things intolerable for them; besides, psychopaths can easily find ways to kill people in jail, so they should be kept the hell away from other inmates too :X
