I'm just having one of those times when I get into an insomnia cycle. I finally fell asleep last night and my kitty decided to meow and meow at 4 a.m. and I couldn't fall back to sleep again.

Sooo tired! I can't even concentrate enough to post anything much to the threads I'm interested in.

Anyone have a home remedy or two to combat insomnia?

This may sound strange but I have seen purple/yellow onions work for many people. I have insomnia bad. I can't eat onions though. Also, warm milk w/ honey.

I read this in an article

People with trouble falling asleep might benefit from taking hot baths about 90 minutes before bedtime, the researchers speculate. When they get out of the bath, body temperature will drop rapidly, and that might help them to fall asleep faster.
and it works AMAZINGLY well for me.

hmmm, a hot bath! I like that idea. Definitely simple enough. I'll give that one a go, along with some of these other suggestions.

I'll help ya out. 5 mins with me and you'll be snoring away. At least my ex told me I bored her to sleep, might work for you too...... :grin

And that's just talking so you won't have to do anything , just sit back and relax.

I have been falling back on dollar-store Benadryl. Been helping me a lot. But I don't use it every night.

Other than that, I keep the house really, really cold at night. Ran it about 58-60 degrees all winter. Makes it so soothing & comfy to be under a couple warm blankets or comforters, the coziness is a sedative itself.

I've been more relaxed at bedtime since going on depression meds, too. Helps my mind stop racing at bedtime.

Insomia clinic made me change some daily pattern stuff. No coffee after 2pm, hot bath 1/2 before bed, no arguing of any type w/ anyone at least an hour before bed. And the hard one for me was that the bed is only to be used for things. Sleep or Sex. If your awake for more than 20 min.s get out of bed and do something for at least 1/2 an hour before you try going back to bed.

I can see some things I'm definitely doing wrong. Critter's suggesting of keeping the house cool seems like it would help. I hate getting out of bed in the cold though. Wish I had a programmable thermostat.

Getting out of bed once I get in it - that seems really hard to do for me. I might try it though on one of my really difficult nights. There are times when I've literally been awake the whole night.

If even part of me is cold at night I wake up. I have to have a considerably warm temp to even get to sleep. Commonly referred as my sleeping temp. that becomes a problem in the summer because I start sleeping though most of it. You just have to find out what triggers sleep for you.
