The Rod Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Yeah, so I have an interview at a hospital in Grand Rapids tomorrow, for a job I soooo want. I'm trying to make my way back into my old field of Neurodiagnostics, and this would be perfect because it's for an Intra-operative Specialist (meaning it's more focused on the surgical portion of neuro monitoring, what I enjoyed most). Plus the pay would be a nice boost. Here's to hoping I get the job. *crosses fingers* BTW, if anyone knows anything fun to do or places to hang out in Grand Rapids let me know, I've only been there a couple times in my life. I've sadly always lived in Saginaw...
Msterbeau Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 God luck Rod. My understanding is that GR isn't too wonderful for the more liberal/weird persuasion.
Onyx Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Yeah, so I have an interview at a hospital in Grand Rapids tomorrow, for a job I soooo want. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Best of luck! Good jobs are a precious thing nowadays. BTW, if anyone knows anything fun to do or places to hang out in Grand Rapids let me know, I've only been there a couple times in my life. I've sadly always lived in Saginaw... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *dies laughing* *comes back to life to say..* I drive to either Detroit or Chicago almost every single weekend. I've been here for several years and there is not much to do unless you like to drive over to the lake. I'm not much of a beach person so I hit the road whenever I can. I'd move away in a heartbeat if I could (and eventually I will). It'd be worth it for the job, but maybe just rent awhile rather than buy a house here so you can see if you can tolerate the dullness of Bland Rapids. ;-)
The Rod Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 God luck Rod. My understanding is that GR isn't too wonderful for the more liberal/weird persuasion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And of that I am both... We'll see how it goes. I'm just glad to be getting out of Sagnasty. My lifestyle is one that desires much freedom, so I'm sure I'll only be there for a few years before I save up enough money and get bored (which from the sounds of it won't be long). And I'm certainly planning on doing a lot of driving... a bike with good gas mileage is already in the plans. Thank you all for your encouragement... Here's to hoping all goes well...
The Rod Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 Well, it turned out really great, and I'd be quite surprised if they didn't offer me the job. They told me to expect a call tomorrow, so the final word won't be til then. This is a great opportunity... I'm totally excited.
The Rod Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 update: I have to go back next week for a job shadowing and to meet with at least one of the surgeons. Sounds like I'm basically in the door.
Kit Kat P Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 congratulations, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
The Rod Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 Actually I just got back an hour ago from Grand Rapids. This time it involved a job shadowing in the neurodiagnostic lab and a meeting with the director of the Surgery Department. I'm basically hired, but I won't be starting til probably the start of June because of some issue with the outsourced company's contracts not expiring til July or August. And it's more intensive than I even originally thought; I will be the sole Intraoperative Monitoring tech, and I am responsible for buying machinery, supplies, creating a Policy & Procedure, interviewing the surgeons on desired monitoring techniques, etc. And when the new hospital opens up in October 2007 it is anticipated that more techs will be hired in and I will move to a managerial position. I'm excited as hell, and will be putting in my two weeks notice probably on Friday at my current job. My life is finally moving in a really positive direction... :D Thanks everyone for your good luck wishes
