When did you first discover City Club?

:devil Along time ago around the Fall of 1999,we were at the IROCK Nightclub trying to figure out what to do after the place closed. One of my friends knew of a house party in Roseville, but we were not too sure because we did not know who was hosting it.We started thinking about other options, like chilling at Denny's or just going home. Then we started to ask some of the other metal heads that were still in the bar,and this one dude told us about a goth club in Detroit inside a hotel. And I thinking, because I have heard of a place like that several years ago when I used to go to the Oxbow Lake Road House awhile back.We then were deciding on either going home or taking a chance going to Detroit at 2:30 in the morning to find this place. We chose option two and started heading down 94.When we got to downtown,we asked several people at some gas stations,if they knew where City Club was at.After 45 minutes we happen to run into a bum who used to hang around the parking structure by the club, and he gave us directions to the hotel. What surprised me at first was that we had driven past the hotel 6 times and did not know CC was located inside.Well we found a place to park and ventured in,and man,to what I remember it was so cool! :cheerful. And Back then it was way different.I also ran into one person there that was at IROCK earlier. It was a great time, and I will never forget it! I started to go on occasion, then later on practically every weekend, even after concerts. And to this day I will still be going until I am an old fart.I also used to dress way differently back then, but these were good times back in the day.I hope someday, some of the old crowd will come back to the club, and relive the old days.No matter what, I will still go to City Club, because that is my gothic home away from the normal world, where a goth can be a goth. :laughing

Never been there.

Found this website a year or so ago quite by accident.

Started posting.

Made Brenda fall in love with me.

Working on Marblez too but she's a slippery one she is.

Met a couple of cool peeps.

Decided I liked it here.

Still never been to City Club......but someday I will.

I am somewhere in the middle ground between real newbies and the venerable longtimers. I showed up there for the first time in the summer of 2000.

And...I'm old.

I was going to a video/tv production trade school in 1996-1997 and a friend of mine from class took me there and I've been going back ever since.

February 20, 1998..the day after my 18th b-day. I had heard about it a few years before that (some of my older friends went). I went there on and off for a few years, then went nearly every Friday and Saturday from 2001 on.

Um... like 1987 or something. I don't remember if I was still in college or not. *shrugs*

November something 1999. I went looking for my bf who ditched me again. He and his friends frequented the place. I was only 17. They checked my id but I guess didn't notice.

Wandered in in 87. Only been there three times... last time was like... 93 or 94

I first went to City Club in 2004 for my friends' birthday. I was soooooo not goth back then, so my friends got me really drunk so they could dress me up and drag me along. I think they were really surprised I had fun.

Would have been around 1990. I remember they still played stuff like Fugazi, and the murals were still on the ballroom walls.

A few friends told me about it back in the mid to late 90's but never got there until last year. Looking forward to going there again.

Back in March 2004, my sister wanted to take me for y 18th birthday but I didnt have my liscense at the time. I had a school ID and a learner's permit.

Nope, didnt get in.

However, the following weekend, I received my liscense in the mail and IT WAS ON!! My sister and I got to City Club and at first I felt a bit intimidated, but within about 10 minutes, I was begging her to tell me when we were coming back.

We returned the following night. =P

While my visits are infrequent, I've been going since 2004....... god...... 2 years already!! oo;

I'm such a youngin / n00b

Funny... so me and Dave (justdave) are talking a walk by my apartment in Hamtamck right .. and we come across Mephistos. I believe what I said was "oh that must be some sort of fetish club" lol .. So we asked my Rommie when we got back, mind you that he was some sort of folk playing hippie (but a really nice guy) he confirmed that it was some sort of goth/fetish club.

So, I was looking it up online, the search and finding of Mephistos lead me here to DGN. I believe I was here one day before I made it out to CC . I joined on a friday and Jeff picked me up for CC on Saturday (because Mr. Tomcat kicks ass!!!!) You could say that CC was not what I expected or was use to in a goth club lol ..... not to mention going there has COMPLETLY changed my life ..

If this chain reaction would have never happened .. I would have never met Jarod, I would have not stayed in MI this long, nor would I be about to become a mommy =) All of which I am greatful for ...

long story short... had a friend who could not get in to clubs and we were tagging along with a friend of mine from highschool (who got free concert tix as tips) and she got him in to CC in 1993. So that puts me as being old too.

I wonder if Marc and I were there at the same time back in 87.

I was going to College for Creative Studies back then, which was in Downtown Detroit. I'm pretty sure I went there a few times while I was still in school.

It's funny to think you and I may have met long before DGN. I'm no longer surprised at the roundabout connections I have with people. Did you live up north back then?

Posted

Yep. I used to come down to the Detriot area to hang with friends. I have pretty much always lived up here on private lakes and such. This allowed me to become friends with the weekenders from that area.
