Been thinking about giving it a try. Anyone tried it yet?

Well I went a head and joined the Vongo thing. I must say its kind of nice being able to download movies like this. Quicker that Netflix, but not quite the variety of movies.

Installation was pretty simple. You download a file which connects to their systems and installs a application for browsing and que'ing up movies and a player for watching them. The browsing part has top downloads, new this week, movies broken up by genre, and a search ability. You can watch movie previews, get cast listing and synopsis. The player is a pretty simple viewer. Play/pause ability to fast forward or reverse, and a full screen option. If your system has the ability to connect to a tv (ie s-video out) you can watch your movies on your tv. Your also capable of watching the movie while your downloading it.

They say on ave it takes about 30-40 mins to download a movie. Which isn't to far off what I am getting. Mine are 45-50 on ave with some only taking about 25-30 depending on what else I am doing on the system. You can que up to ten to download at any one time and can have as many on your system as your HD will hold. Each file being between 400-600 meg.

There are time limits on the files though. Some movies/concerts are set up as pay per views, but the majority are set up as regular membership movies. PPV's have a 24 hour time limit from the first moment you start watching it. Regular movies have varing time frames before they "expire" one of the ones I downloaded doesn't expire until August of 2007. From what I can tell their "As long as starz has the right to the movie" comment basically is if they can play it on one of their starz channels they will offer it for download.

They have all genres's but as you would expect with a R or below rating their anime section is a bit on the limited side. The movies available are growing. I noticed many new ones added since yesterday. Not all of them are new releases. They have classic like The Birds and Tora Tora Tora to newer movies like Blade: Trinity and Bewitched. You can also watch one of the Starz channels as it plays on regular cable/sat.

Well thats it for now. If anyone has any questions I can try answering them from what I know now or see if I can find the answer for you.

When you download these movies, are you able to keep them or burn them to disk?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Can't burn them to disk and you can only keep them as long as Starz has the rights to the movie. Once they no longer have the rights to the movie its removed from their listing, removed from your Library, and deleted off your HD.

Some of the ones in my library and their end dates:

Ladder 49 11/29/06

Tora Tora Tora 07/30/06

Blade: Trinity 02/05/07

Cursed 05/31/06

Once the dates I have listed are reached that movie would be removed from their system, my library, and my Hard Drive. Example on May 31 Cursed will be removed from my hard drive and will no longer be listed in their movies for download.

You are able to watch the movies as many times as you want to in the time frames that they are available. You don't redownload them everytime you want to watch them. They are already available on your system for viewing. You are also able to delete them yourself.

Does that mean you won't be able to get it again sometime down the road. Who knows. They may get the rights again and you would then be able to download it again for viewing.

BTW you can have up to 3 devices under your account. Main system and 2 others (ie laptop or portable media device) but I don't know if you would be able to use your psp as one of the devices. I know you can use Memory Sticks with the psp but I don't know if they come in a large enough memory capacity to hold one of the downloads.
