Lilith Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 So we found this baby falcon/hawk on the side of our house and we are now raising him. We need to pick a name and we want to name him the same name of this falcon/hawk was named on a show back in 70's or 80's. I do not remember the name of the show much less the name of the bird that was on the show. ALl i remebr was the guy would stand on the mountin with te falcon/hawk on his arm and he would point or do some other quee for it to fly off and then it would come back and let him know all the juicy gossip. Does any one remember the name of the show?
BrassFusion Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 There's a falcon on Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. Its name is Avenger. =)
ZhukovCodeslinger Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 having a raptor without a license is a crime michigan. I was made aware of this due to my pet red tailed hawk... I named him "pretty bird" just to be an ass.. He had several dollars of ground beef a day... and loved to eat chickens. I dont know what show you are talking about sorry.
Fierce Critter Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I've learned to take any orphans or injured animals to a rehabber ASAP. Was a time you couldn't tear me away from all the raccoons, squirrels, birds, etc. I found - I wanted to rehab them myself and keep them as pets. I learned my lesson. If you decide you want to pass the bird on to a rehabber, Harmony, I can put you in touch with certified ones that deal with birds.
Lilith Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 I am actually not sure what we are going to do, I honestly dont see us keeping it but while it here it needs a name so the kids stop calling it chirp chirp....... FC i would liek to get the Information you suggested, I do know these guy get bigger and i do know we dont have space for it. What i was hoping was MOM would be around and we could give it back sort of but it seems mom has vacated the area. I have alos been doing allot of reading and too have found out the illegals, I did find out you get a permit from the state and fed gov so if we end up keeping him till he old enough to be free i would be getting those...... I do have a shitty neighbor...... For the moment he has been here Been being fed and needs a name.

Did you ever get a permit or license for yours?

BUT, I lived far enough out in the country that I had neighbors who blew up trees with dynamite on one side and a guy who flew airplanes in and out of his property on the other. THere was zero chance of me getting caught with it. I turned him over to a bird rescue a couple months later (after he healed up) and he never came back to eat chickens. (his eating chickens is what got him shot in the first place)
Fierce Critter Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I'll hunt-up those names for you and PM you, Harmony. You can't obtain a license to OWN a wild bird in Michigan. It's illegal, even for a sparrow. You can get a certificate that allows you to rehab, but you have to train with someone first. At least, that's how it was last time I checked. You can even be ticketed for moving a wild bird from one place to another, if caught. I found out about that recently. There was a mama duck had nested in, of all places, a flower box outside a shopping mall nearby. I contacted a rehabber, and even they couldn't touch her. Once her chicks hatched, then they could. But DNR rules don't allow a nested bird to be moved. The rules & regulations can be odd.
Lilith Posted June 4, 2006 Author Posted June 4, 2006 Looks like i will not need those numbers, came home from work to find he had passed away. =( thanks for the info on regulations and such.......
Fierce Critter Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 So sorry to hear that, Harmony. Wish I'd gotten back with you sooner, but I'm not reading all threads these days.
