OK... Now that I've watched it. That was cool. Is it OK that I wanted to shoot the factory manager?

That was quite good. Didn't much care for the music, though.

You don't like New Order?

Not sure of anything else they do. All I noticed is that the voicing of the higher pitched "bleep bleeps" was contradictory. They weren't independent, but they weren't consonant to each other, either. It could be a stylistic choice but it's easy enough to make music that sounds like a mistake.

Do you know who Joy Division is?

Posted

Just so you know.. the movie Pretty in Pink had 3 New Oder songs in it.. including Elegia... which is the song in this short film.

You might have also heard the song Blue Monday... the best selling 12" single of all time.

I've heard the orgy cover. And not sure if you're trying to convince me that I should like them or that they're incredible musicians.

Mostly I'm being amazed that you don't know who New Order or Joy Division are and you post on a Goth message board.

And the truth comes out!

*shrug* I keep telling people I'm not a "goth." I guess it all comes down to your definition.

I appreciate and enjoy much of the music, if i'm not familiar with most of it. I'm open to any recommendations.

I wear black only at night when I go out and when I play concerts, because black blouse and skirt/slacks is the standard dress for women in most orchestras.

I'm optimistic most of the time.

I drive a Jetta.

Now all those reasons make me a geek and a prep and I can deal with that. Some people say I'm also a Goth because I have a dark sense of humor and I enjoy night and that sort of thing. Maybe none of that matters.

All I know is that that one song by New Order doesn't do it for me because a repeated theme from it sounds randomly cobbled together (like some things I've written, no lies).

Perhaps you should listen to the song without the added sounds from the video. I think you might be confusing sounds from the video as parts of the soundtrack.

No, I'm definitely not. The melody is in a guitar sounding track most of the time, and the harmony is a repeated motive of three notes of equal value with an accent on the first of each group of three. The problem with the harmony is that it's put into multiple voices that don't acknowledge the others.

I'll say at this point that I really do like the melody and the song overall has a lot of potential.

My beef with it is completely technical- that they ignored a common rule of Western contemporary music to ill effect. It could be that they have extensive knowledge of composition and that's exactly what they wanted it to sound like, or they wanted some harmony there, any at all, and thought that sounded "good enough" and didn't know how to make it sound better. I have no way to know.

So.. How many years were you in the marching band?

Four.
