Ok like.... I've never really had a problem with the way movies are rated... Not a big enough one to really bitch about it anyway... till now...God Is PG?

Posted

Absolutely. I'm sure many parents would want to know that a movie was evangelical BEFORE they let their children see it. Would you feel the same way if the movie had strong Muslim themes?

P.S. The Ten Commandments is, and probably always will be, G-rated. ;)

Can't say I see a problem with that rating at all.

Posted

me, either... i think it's appropriate. =)

If anything, this could be positive for Christian families. I know a lot of parents who will let their children watch ANYTHING as long as it's G-rated, but won't let them watch anything PG or above without knowing why.

If Veggietales or whatever was all of a sudden PG, Christian parents might wonder why, and then read the justification for the rating along with the rating itself. They'd still rent the video, but they'd be more informed... and they might give other PG's a chance.

Makes sense to me...

My problem stems from the fact that the rating changes what theators will play the movie and when it can be played. I also highly doubt that the explination for the ratingis going to be displayed in the theators or in trailers. So, it's going to give the impression that the movie conatins things it doesn't.

and BF.. don't try to find bigotry where it's not.

I agree that it's appropriate also.

As we've seen on this board, everyone has a different view on religion. For some, talk of god is as natural as breathing.. for others, god does not exist. Whether you belive or not, the topic of spirituality is important in some way to everyone raising children. I'm pretty sure most parents would want to know that there children are seeing this.. whether they agree with the messege or not.

bigotry? i didn't get that from bf's post - did i miss something? icon9.gif

Bigotry? What? Are you talking about the Muslim thing?

I don't mean to say you're a bigot if you'd want Muslim-themed cartoon features to carry a PG, but not Christian-themed ones. I can only assume that's what you meant. This IS a largely Christian nation, so Christian rhetoric is more acceptable here. I'm not calling you a bigot.

Oftentimes ratings ARE justified in trailers and on posters.

Also, where's there a movie house that plays G-rated movies, but not PG? Or a theater that restricts PG movies to not play during the day? A lot of full-length animated features are PG nowadays, if you hadn't noticed.

I'll buy your argument from that point. If you want your younger kids to go and it only plays after their bedtime, or whatever.. I can understand that.

Every movie theator has time restrictions based on ratings.

and you wonder why people get upset with you. I never said a damn thing about any specific religion. Your the only one that has said anything about any specific religion. Whats your problem with Muslims?

Forget it. For all intents and purposes, topic closed.

I'm going to have to agree with Mark here.

1. If you kid is to young to go to the movies alone, they have to have a parent Present anyway.

2. If a child is old enough to go on his/her own, or with another adult you trust, they should be able to start to decided if Christianty is right for them, no matter what religion they were brought up.

I have huge issues with the rating system. Im sorry but the Princes Bride DOESNT NOT belong in the same ratting as Mission Impossible .. and not just because its a better movie.

Not to mention so the horrible pg-13 movies that are out there .. they can allow these 13 year olds to see pg-13 movies that have themes of sexy and drinking, ect ect. But not allow them to see a good (moral) movie about religion with out perental gudience... that is just stupid. I dont make this about religion because its really not .... I myself am not religious, I dont believe in god, or a higher power. But I do believe that every person has a right to choose from themselfs what is the right path for them, even children of a certain age. I just think it is TRUMPidcoulus =)
