~~~~~ When we were growing up, there was a trend going around where young men would ring the doorbells in apartment buildings to find out which ones had female occupants. When they found what they were looking for, they would knock on the door or ring the doorbell to that apartment, rob and rape the occupant then disappear. It didn't get much coverage because it was the 80's and happening in a Black neighborhood at the Jefferies Housing Projects known as the Brewster-Douglas Apartments, before they were eventually closed down. It was a scary time and investigators eventually discovered that 2 of the guys doing it, actually lived in the apartment complex and would let their buddies in to aid in committing the crimes. They arrested 4 individuals, but the damage was done.
