hhmmm...

The core of the Adventist tradition is basically conservative Protestantism.

More on SDA.

Hmmm... interesting that you would say that.

My SDA professor called adventists just that at college (which happened to be an SDA college). What would you call Adventists then?

[/quote Adventist are good people. They do not need to be labled "conservative". That word can sometimes give people a bad name and turn people away. Every denominations and belief's has thier hypocrites and judgementals. I was raised around a lot of SDA's and I still in goth stuff. I am sure thier are a lot of goth's who have been raised or are affilated with the church.

One of Ellen G. White's big book "The Great Controversy" has a a lot of elements that are goth, or at least goth in my book. I read it when I was 12 in 6th grade. She spoke things in history about people who were gothic.

"conservative" can be used in a non-negative manner. But yes, SDA vaules and the core of its very many views are conservative, no need to take it in a negative manner. Just because it's mainly conservative doesnt mean that it can't be open to things. And I know that was not my intention nor Onyx's to make you feel that way.

Thanks for the confirmation. The question I have is what your definition of conservative that SDA's qualify?

From Wikipedia...

According to an official statement from the General Conference [1], heterosexual marriages are the only biblically ordained grounds for sexual intimacy. Seventh-day Adventists do not perform same-sex marriages and gay men cannot be ordained. An extramarital affair is one of the sanctioned grounds for a divorce. Masturbation has also been traditionally frowned upon (although not damned) as an unhealthy, self-centered practice, contrary to God's design for sex to be a shared experience within marriage.

More restriction...

From Wikipedia:

Seventh-day Adventists present a health message that recommends vegetarianism and expects abstinence from pork, shellfish, and other foods proscribed as "unclean" in Leviticus 11, as well as from alcohol and tobacco.

Having become acquainted with the Adventists in a more intimate manner, I think its fair to comment.

It seems that while they're certainly more progressive than most christian meme's, they still are extremely restrictive in terms of the lifestyle of their members.

there wrong. Adventist's are much more laid back now a days. We have had people in our church had sex before marriage. Practically 90% of our congregation have done it.

adventist's are so goth.

and so what do SDA's then do with scriptural references to say....Peter's "kill and eat" vision?

quit listening to that stuff. Adventist now a days are goth.

OK, I'm a bit confused by this thread. What is BillyDeath REALLY trying to say here? Why exactly do Adventists kick ass? I don't know much at all about this particular denomination, so enlighten me...

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
