BillyDeath Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 You can still be Goth and enjoy some Country. I still listen too Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams I,II,III, Waylon Jennings, Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, Big And Rich, and many more. I am not lame for liking country.
phee Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Willie, Johnny.... they are the Shiznet.... I try not to deny any whole genre.... I can say I havn't heard much I like.... But I will not make a gross generalization about all of it

slingerlandstyx Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Thank god... Something I thought I'd never see. I think I made a country music thread back when I first joined, don't remember. Ever go to the down town hoedown? I had the privelege of getting to see the Kentucky Headhunters there a couple of weeks ago.
saechalyn Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I don't mind it as long as it's not too twang-y. I'm not a big fan but sometimes I listen to it on the radio.
Slept with ghost Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 i prefer the more relaxing country some times but not enough to rush out and buy any and i dont really like the more modren country that trys to be witty
Msterbeau Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I like a little. Cash - definitely. My fave is Neko Case. Gorgeous voice and haunting lyrics.
Steven Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I'm just sort of discovering it. I like some of the old school stuff because it sounds more heartfelt. I've got a Johnny Cash box set that Laura bought me that I dig on. But you see he didint fuck around - he shot straight - and any musician can see that and admire that. I like this gal lucinda williams. Strange voice, strange songs....I dunno, she gets to me. I like Gretchen Wilson. YOu can tell that she's been playing clubs forever before she finnally got a break and she doesent have that Nashville polish. I like a rawer sound. I just like good storytelling songs. And country music does that very well, better than most really. I also enjoy the loyalty of country fans, I admire that.

A woman I went out with a few years ago turned me onto her. Almost forgot... :whistling
Scary Guy Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 16 Horsepower Fuckin' bad ass goth country rock. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed, best goth country with southern themes. I wouldn't use the word rock though, it does not rock, but it does in fact rule. http://www.ghoultown.com Fuckin' bad ass goth country with mexican/western themes I like some of the Coffinshakers but it sounds a little campy to me. older > newer always with country. That's about it. EDIT: Almost forgot Bluegrass is great too.
LuluVox Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Indeed, best goth country with southern themes. I wouldn't use the word rock though, it does not rock, but it does in fact rule. One only has to put on 16 Horsepower's Secret South to hear 16 Horsepower rock. And rock well. I like some country, but I don't feel like listing it out here. Most of it is old.

Ghoultown, Coffinshakers also badass. I love blasting 16 horsepower when I drive around town Lol
kellygrrrrrl Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Willie, Johnny, Hank I, II, III regularly. that about it. I Love Pasty.
Fierce Critter Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Despite self-labeling myself "the Anti-Country", there are some artists I like enough to listen to if I come across them while switching dials. Johnny Cash - whom I could even see owning Patsy Cline - Matter of fact, "Crazy" is one of my better Karaoke numbers. Dixie Chicks, to an extent Two of my favorite artists, Lyle Lovett and kd lang are usually sold under the country lable, though they themselves aren't sure that's necessarily where they belong. Earlier Chris Isaak borders on country, and I own everything he's ever done. But for the most part, if there's a pedal steel guitar involved, I run for my life.

That album has way more of a folk feel on most of its tracks than anything else. Can they rock? Yes, indeed they can. Is it what they usually do? No, they don't and therefore I think country rock is a misclassification for them. Just how I feel about it though.

I just said that if one wants to hear them rock, that is where one should go. I think classifying music too finely, much like trying to prove an opinion as absolute fact, is pretty silly and unnecessary.
Fierce Critter Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 FC... You don't like Pink Floyd? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I assume you're saying that because they probably use a lot of pedal steel. Matter of fact, I actually don't care for Pink Floyd :grin A song or two, but overall, not a sound that my ears care for, either. Now if we're going to get picky about my mentioning a particular instrument as the guideline by which I judge what I do and don't like, it does, of course, depend on the way it's used. In country, it provides the twang for the most part. It's often whiny and just grates on my nerves. Whereas in Hawaiian music, I can better deal with the sound because it's played somewhat differently, and is accompanied by a style of music that my ear finds pleasing. Not that I have a "Hawaiian" section in my CD rack.
Scary Guy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I think classifying music too finely, much like trying to prove an opinion as absolute fact, is pretty silly and unnecessary. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe so, but it was my favorite sixth grade science project. Classification helps to keep similar items together therefore if I put on a CD of one genre I mix chances are it will only have what in my oppinion belongs in that genre or things very closely related to it.
AstralCrux Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I've been listening to nothing but country recently.
