Der Nister Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Cat Power.....just seen her on Letterman last night. Great voice. ....and she's hot to boot. :grin
Hellheart Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Female singers with great lyrics can get me to listen to bands I'd otherwise not. Shirley Manson from Garbage, an awesome person besides Maria from Battery, she put a lot of feeling into their non-experimental songs Jussi Gamache from Freezepop Jessicka Fodera, formerly from Jack off Jill and now singing for Scarling. The other three girls that started Jack off Jill Le Tigre, all of them, lol Tairrie B from My Ruin, sultry voice and great lyrics Shikhee from Android Lust, possibly the first woman to both sing in and compose industrial music, certainly the most well-known (Erica Dunham from Unter Null is the only other one I recall offhand) Amanda Palmer from The Dresden Dolls. Awesome songwriter.
Fierce Critter Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Never - NEVER - ceases to amaze me that no matter how late I come into a conversation like this, nobody has yet mentioned my favorite, even as an aside. Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. For me, it's a tossup between the simply fantastic talent coming from her in everything from voice to songwriting to guitar playing and the way she never used her being female as any kind of crutch/excuse/identifier for what she has done and achieved. That said, also on my list would be Kate Bush Cyndi Lauper Enya Anne Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart

I am trying to place a song in my mind to remember her voice. Did they do "Love is a Battlefield"?

DarkVampire Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Well she had a unique voice herself. I can't place a Pretenders song in my head at the moment.
LuluVox Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Odd, I just heard an interview on the radio today with Pat Benatar, and she said that Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders is her all-time favorite singer. So she'd probably be pretty happy to be mixed up with her, DV.
Msterbeau Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Chrissy Hynde *Ahem* I did spell it wrong though... :doh
Fierce Critter Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 That's probably why I missed it in your post, Marc. I was scanning rather quickly. =) DV - Brass in Pocket, Back on the Chain Gang, Tattooed Love Boys, Message of Love, etc.
