Blackmail Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 who's watching it? 62 games spread over 3 channles in one month of the worlds greatest sporting event. USA plays the Czech republic tommorow. Watching Mexico vs Iran right now on ABC. Anyone else?
BrassFusion Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 It's so culturally significant, and it's so promising to the future of international race relations... I almost wish I gave a shit about soccer.
Guest Megalicious Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I'm not much of a soccer fan, but after the Ivory Coast VS Argentina game yesterday I will be watching alot more =)
Blackmail Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 I'm not much of a soccer fan, but after the Ivory Coast VS Argentina game yesterday I will be watching alot more =) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> - Germany 4 Costa Rica 2 A great game and the crowd in Germany was very noisy and boistorous. Also saw England defeat Paraguay because of an own goal. In 1994 the U.S. beat Colombia because a Colombian defender scored an own goal and when he returned to his home country he was shot and killed. -Soccer is my favorite sport and I watched every USA game in the middle of the night in 2002 when the US went to the Quarterfinals. -USA defeated Mexico 2-0 in the last world cup, then Mexican fans chanted "OSAMA OSAMA" the next time the U.S. played at Azteca. -This year the U.S. finished in first place in the qualifying rounds of the world cup. -U.S. best players: Landon Donovan who plays for Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS Kasey keller who is the goalkeeper, he plays in Germany Claudio Reyna plays for Manchester City in the English Premier League Clint Dempsey who plays for New England in MLS Tim Howard, bakcup goal keepr plays for Manchester United in the English premier Damarcus Beasley who plays for PSV Eindhoven is Holland
Guest Megalicious Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Also saw England defeat Paraguay because of an own goal. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I saw the highlights of that, and I was reading where everyone was so hopeful for England this year..... That they have a really good team.
Der Nister Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I almost wish I gave a shit about soccer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :whistling
Head Wreck Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 oh that game has been played in the media as a good start to the world cup. tbh england have a world class soccer team. paraguay have not. for an own goal saved them from a draw thier in trouble. tbh i hope england loose. whenever england wins an international on anything we never hear the end of it untill they get beaten next tournament. it pisses me off some as it fills the media up for 4 fucking years. i want to hear real news at some point this next 4 years
Blackmail Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 You know what, I don't think England is very good at all. The English Media tells everyone they are good but they never win anything anymore. They don't win any of the world cups, they didn't win EURO 2004 or EURo 2000. Take Wayne Rooney for example. Everyone in England talks about how great Rooney is but he is nothing outside of England, no one in Spain or Italy care about Wayne Rooney. Or Michael Owen, he is great in England then he goes and plays in the Spanish league and he is a nobody, he couldn't even hardly get in a game, he was on Real Madrids bench most of the time. David Beckham plays more than Owen but he doesn't exactly look world class like he did when he played in England. Plus look at the best teams in Englands Premier Leagues, the best teams have mostly foreign players. Arsenal have a French manager, their best player (Henry) is French and their top midfielder is French (Pires). Chelsea is the best team in England and they too have mostly foreigners. I'm just saying, the English press keep telling everyone how great their football is but when have England won anything? It's been a while. England got no further than the U.S. in the last world cup. And Head Wreck, you're right, for England to need an own goal against a weak South American side is nothing to get too excited about.
Head Wreck Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 david becham is sponsorship. he's picked for teams to raise profile and increase the amount they can ask the sponsors to pay. he's past it tbh.
Blackmail Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 By the way, I should give England some credit - I sounded a bit harsh. England does have some very good players, Owen is good, Beckham is a great crosser of the ball, Gerrard is good, Rooney is good. I'm just saying, look at Italy, France and Brazil. While Rooney is very good, he would probably not come close to the pitch if he was from Brazil. Brazil has players like Ronaldo, Ronaldhino, Robinho, etc that are better than anyone....probably in the entire world.
Msterbeau Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Professional sports. Bleh. Yet another reason for people to turn into fanitical, uncivilized idiots prone to violence and stupid behavior. Double bleh. World Cup Soccer is even worse then US Pro Foorball, basketball etc. Triple bleh.

The_Dark Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Watching soccer while fucking wayne... pretty good multi-tasking
Blackmail Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 the U.S. played a horrible game and lost 3-0 to the Czech Republic. They must now at least tie with Italy in their next and win against Ghana or they will be out. They might even need to win both games depending on other scores.
Blackmail Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 heh <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, President Bush did call the team before the match.
Brenda Starrr Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Watching soccer while fucking wayne... pretty good multi-tasking <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :blink Now that I'm being forced to watch it, I have cheered for Ghana. I'm always glad to see an underdog win. Now, let's see how we do against Italy.
Guest Megalicious Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Now, let's see how we do against Italy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have no doubt Italy is going to kick our asses .. however I will still be cheering for the USA !!! (you got to have your country's back =) )
Brenda Starrr Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 I have no doubt Italy is going to kick our asses .. however I will still be cheering for the USA !!! (you got to have your country's back =) ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe not. I'm an optimist.
Guest Megalicious Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Maybe not. I'm an optimist. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know. Considering that Italy just scored .. and the USA stat for wining without scoring first is 41-1 .... :erm
