jadnifer Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 all right. heres the thing about me. just ventured out on my own. away from the 'rents and finding out who i am. There has always been the goth in me, but now i am free to express and really enjoy it. However, I have never experienced how society views these things. Can you share experiences? I know people that judge by the way people dress and look and I think those people fu*kin suck! Me, i dont care what people think. I am who I am. if you dont like then f*ck off! your loss. please share how individuals and society as a whole treat us.
Vater Araignee Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 You have a lot of considering factors that will determine how you are treated like.. What area do you live in? The general expectations varies north south eat west, state to state even city to city. How goth are you? The more extreme you are, the more extreme the reactions. What sex are you? Populations except strange looking females quicker then males. How old are you? If you are or look young people will go "Oh it's just a phase". I live in Livingston co. My gothyness swings from full regalia to eyeliner and dyed hair to stained hair and tee shirts. I am a male. I look like a Thirty Something. All that being said I have scars on my knuckles because morons don't know when to shut up. In the same turn, I have seen this county become more excepting over the years but then again that could just be because they know me.
Homicidalheathen Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I get the wierd looks and comments and preasure from family members to change but I guess if I wanted to fit in I would dress like mary poppins and act normal. But I would be dying inside. Ok, so that was a little extreme....I would feel....trapped.
BrassFusion Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I don't understand people who feel uncomfortable wearing "normal" clothes. I like dressing in a variety of ways depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing and what mood I'm in and whether I'm getting paid to do whatever I plan to do. If it's a family reunion, I wear whatever I feel like wearing. If it's a little extreme, they might say something, but not negative. I have a pretty cool family. I <3 variety.

I think that they would be a little bit less understanding because the people around there just dont do that and if they do i have never seen them. I am not extreme goth right now, but it is something that i have always wanted to be, but the fact that i lived with my parents kept me from being who i really am. I have always wore the dark clothes and things unless i was forced otherwise. pastels and things just were never my thing. I am female. you would know better than i would about what people find acceptable about us. but i would agree that society accepts goth females than goth males. i really dont why that is though. there are just societal norms and when people perceive that someone deviates from these norms, it is not quite acceptable to them for some reason or other. i am 23 years old. quite young yet. people probably would think that it is just a phase for me, but it isnt. i have always felt this way just couldnt express it. well, it could be that they know you. however, i know that when i become who i want to be that it is going to talk people a lot of getting used to and they may never get used to it but oh well i am not them. i just gotta be me and make me happy

I agree that if things were different and i couldnt be me i would feel extremely trapped

Roseville has several as well as a bunch of Ravers....... I live in Roseville, Female a Mother ,29 years old. I am about variety in a way but it is my variety. I Go with Diffrent Colors in my hair From Black to Blonde and every color in between Cirrently i am blonde. I dress mainly in dark colors but you will see me in other from time to time just depends. I do like jeans . I personally found with the colors in my hair i met allot of people whom wanted to discuss the how to's or whom were supportive and allot of people who stared or went other ways, and other poeple whom just did not care and treated me like any one else. I remebr walking in to hooters with my Hubby The entire place went silent untill we were seated, then reamin quiet untill about the time the waitress came to take out order, then it seemed to get back busy place with conversation. I have had peopl exclain OH MY GOD extreamly loud and stare, while other have shouted i love your hair. YA take the good with the bad ~ keep sense of humor ~ sometimes ya get angry~ feels like anything else in life to me really
Scary Guy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 male (obviously), 25, and in Madison Heights. People here are idiots but to the west is Royal Oak and to the right is Warren so it's not horrible. I drive a hearse and I generally get more thumbs up and smiles than middle fingers and snears. I remember one time walking someone shouted at me "hey it's Vampire Hunter D" driving by as i was walking. I thought to myself "well at least he knows what Vampire Hunter D is". Generally I'm a nice person and try to prove the stereotypes wrong. If people are openly assholes to me then I'm openly an asshole back. Whatever though, fuck society and fuck whatever they think. Your family sucks too because if they can't accept you for who you are then they're not really supportive of you. Love should be unconditional, I for one know it's not. That being said, welcome to our gothic family. Oh yeah and your new, so pay no attention to anything I say, no one else does.
Hellion Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 :devil I generaly hate most of society in America, due to stereotyping, shit talking, and the stupid ass moronic losers. I stay away from the conformists too, they make me sick. I only socialize with people who are honest, are themselves, and that try to better themselves in any situation whether good or bad. I myself am not a people person going around and just talking to every yahoo on the street. Choose your friends wisely.Carry on.
BillyDeath Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I sometimes get weird looks from other's. I usually do not give a fuck because these people don't feed me, fuck me, or finance me. People need to keep their opinions to themselves.
