Municiple Fees

A co-worker had his motorcycle stolen a couple weeks ago. The Southgate police dept. recovered it and has it in their impound. In order to get it out of impound he's required to pay a $230 fee PLUS $18 a day.

WTF?

The victim of a crime is required to pay THAT much money to get his property back? I understand that municipalities are in need of cash but this is beyond all common sense. I guess that shouldn't be a big surprise in this day and age...

Yah I know how that goes ... ewww. :doh

When I bought my first car, a honda civic no less, I had it stolen. The funny thing is .. the police found it in the parking lot of my work, go figure. Instead of calling me and saying hey we found your car and its like 10 mins from you, they impounded it and I ended up paying a shit load to get it out ... fucking assholes!

That's insane. Why don't they just go around stealing cars and joyriding them for a day, then pretend they "found" them to collect on the impound fees?

Lordy, I hope this doesn't get to any city governments and give anyone ideas.

It's legalized grand theft auto. I doubt anyone remembers when they towed all the cars out of the Labyrinth lot. I read about it on another forum.

When my truck got stolen and they had it a week later, we just told them to keep it. Good luck selling that peice of shit at auction.
