TheLordShaper Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 So, I lost a friend today in an accident and he was a big keeper of critters. I volunteered to take his snake. Now, I dont know much about snakes and this is a 2.5 ft albino ball python. Anyone have any experience they can lend me? Dan was a good guy and he would have liked me to take care of his little buddy. TLS

Granted it will only just like sit there and flick it's tongue, but my would actually sit with me and watch tv. I would either find a spot on the couch and sit up and look at the tv, or it would wrap around my neck and watch tv with me. mine was so well mannered that the entire time I owned it it only hissed at me once and that was it. No biting or striking what so ever. feeding for a snake that size I would say a large mouse once every 3 weeks, if you kill it for him they won't be as aggressive either. If you got any other questions feel free to ask

That said, I don't know dick about snakes, so I have nothing more to contribute. =)
TearSandrille Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I definately advise that you hit up Preuss here in Lansing. They are super nice and will help you out with care. I'm posting this so you remember, since I know you were going through alot the other day. I'd ask the girlfriend of the Dan's if he feed it live or frozen mice/rats. Snakes that eat live have a hard time switching over to frozen and sometimes won't eat. I prefer to feed frozen for two main reasons 1.) it is safer for the snake (there are plenty of pictures of scarred up snakes due to live rats) and 2.) it's way more convent since you can buy them in bulk and keep them in the freezer until they are need.
Homicidalheathen Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I know you have to have a certain size bulb over the tank to keep it warm, road show would know, just call them. Oh and petco has food. Live mice and rats and stuff. I think the tank has to be a certain size depending on the snake too.
Scary Guy Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 My friend Todd L. keeps a few snakes. I can't stand them since they don't think like mamals do (feeding a smarter creature to a lesser one IMO). Though he'd take the live mice and kill them before hand. Then feed them to the snakes.
Blackmail Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Just don't feed it rats these are mine www.myspace.com/wendeltherat Rats are nice, don't kill them!
TheLordShaper Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Thank you for everyones suggestions. Tommorow is dans veiwing and im really starting to feel it. He was such a good guy and I'm still struggling with the gravity of his loss. I get the snake this weekend so I can only hope I can do a good job caring for it. It's the least I can do for a friend taken way too soon. Rest in peace Reverend Jester. TLS
TheLordShaper Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 An update.... So I was misinformed. The snake is not a Ball python as I was informed but rather an albino Burmese Python that apperently is going to grow to a size that is umm shall we say impressive? Rigth now "monthy" is only about 3 ft long but he should get enourmous quickly. I somewhat questioned the habitate dan was building for him at his house but know I see where he was going with this "little" guy. So I will be spending sometime learning to care for this guy and I'll keep you all informed. Hopefully I'll get pixs up as hes is really kewl looking but ummm 15-18ft and up to 200lbs is just scary. Damn you Dan... i know your laughing at me somewhere..... TLS
