Hellion Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 :devil In my own opinion,I think that when you are a certain age,you should be able to pick your own name. Some parents today have named thier kid really ridiculous names lately.Examples are: Dick Trickle, the race car driver.Man I would have disowned my parents if they named me that,or the name,Charles Pugh,Tom Raper,Dick Buttkis,LOL!! All I can say is some parents were not thinking when they named thier kids. If anything just call me Satan.LOL :devil
BrassFusion Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I think you are allowed to pick your own name. Google "name change" +legal, maybe.
Gauge Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 in some societys or religions (not sure wich) the child isnt named untill there. . .10 i think or something like that and then once theyve done a right of passage they are able to name themselves.
Fierce Critter Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I like my name. But I never liked my middle name, so I dropped it totally when I got married. I had intended to replace it, but I'm just sans MN for now.
Head Wreck Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 celtic tradition a child is named by the mother and no one else. the sirname is "ap <insert name of pearent>" this tradition died out, though the first name tradition i belive is pretty OK, so long as the mother isnt stupid enough to name her son Kalien (pronc. Kay-lee-en). god that kid is gonna get his ass kicked in school... if i had a son i would not object to resurecting some of the older welsh names. nearly everyone calls thier children josh, <somename with an â on the end> my name is chris. there are so many of us, my airsoft team only has 2 out of 7 people in it who are not named chris
Brenda Starrr Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I told Wayne that I wanted to change my last name to E*******-Starrr. He just about pooped himself and told me that he was going to kick my ass. So, I guess that's out of the question.
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Cannot compute.......what would you be called until you could pick yur own name?? "Hey KId"? But then all the other parents would be calling their kids the same thing. There would be no individuality.

Msterbeau Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 We didn't name our children until they were out for a few hours and we had the opportunity to look em over.... :-)
Homicidalheathen Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I agree totally, but our society requires you have a permanent name that goes on record as soon as your born. This is tied into your SS number, all birth records.....ect......then when you start school everyone gets used to calling you this name. It is hard to change thus. I heard once there was a tribe who sent their kids out on a vision quest at around 12 and it was then they found their permanent, adult and spiritual name and from that moment on everyone was to call them by this name. I like the idea but don't think I could get used to calling someone a new name by the age of 12 all the time.

Head Wreck Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i have A bad habit of calling people by forum names. even those i've known for a long time
BrassFusion Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Crank kept calling me "Brass... ohwaitimean Erin" at CC the other night. I really like being called Brass, though. But maybe I liked The Legend better. XD damn, I should've made that my forum name instead...
