BillyDeath Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Do you think this is possible for a country musician to have some goth elements. Maybe that will give Dwight yoakam the opportunity to make a come back, after all he is my favorite musician. Does anyone listen to him? :devil
MarsDustDoug Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Clint 'Black', lol <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Closest I can come to is The Unknown Hinson www.myspace.com/unknownhinson and it is a bit of a longshot. he is HILARIOUS live and he does the voice for one of the Squidbillies on Adult Swim.
phee Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Check Out "The Hungry Ghost" They are most definitly Gothic Country...
BillyDeath Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 Do you think Dwight Yoakam could be gothic?
BrassFusion Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Country + Goth = Folk. I know, I've heard it attempted before.
Scary Guy Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Country + Goth = Folk. I know, I've heard it attempted before. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not all of it Ghoultown is a good example. Surprised no one mentioned Jonny Cash yet either...
Brenda Starrr Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Surprised no one mentioned Jonny Cash yet either... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just woke up, or I would have. Johnny was the most goth.
Rayne Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Surprised no one mentioned Jonny Cash yet either... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really need to scroll down to the end before posting sometimes.
Joey Deadcat Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 No such thing. However, there are country/western artists who have some dark-sounding songs. Other than that there are dark bands who throw in those elements like Ghoultown(and their brief offshoot, Maltoro), Gun Club, Tex & The Horseheads, The Coffinshakers, and most psychobilly bands who have some "country-ish" tunes. And, like Doug mentioned, Unknown Hinson. Hasil Adkins is another one who did creepy rockabilly/country/broken blues. Other than that, you're still not gonna find a gothic western section in your local cd shop.
DarkVampire Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I just woke up, or I would have. Johnny was the most goth. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The man in black invented country goth.
Scary Guy Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I disagree, The Coffinshakers are extremely goth country, although extremely campy sounding IMO. Come on "Dark in my Heart" is probably my favorite song by them that I can remember.
jadnifer Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I do like Dwight Yoakam, but I wouldnt necessarily call him goth
Joey Deadcat Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Forgot to mention that Hank Williams, Sr also had some pretty dark tunes.
MarsDustDoug Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 ah crap I forgot about Ghoultown... nother one I thought of too. The Bloodjunkies. They easily had a gothy-country/western feel to them
lord_velos Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Ghoultown is a good example. Surprised no one mentioned Jonny Cash yet either... I remember Ghoultown! I kinda liked them. They had this song called "There a Killer in Texas" And would Johnny Cash really be considered goth? Than again would Ghoultown also really be goth? (shrugs)
Head Wreck Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 ghoultown tocks. after two the worm fistfull of diamonds pale skin diva all classics as well as the ubiquetous killer in texas
Homicidalheathen Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I have been enlightened. I didn't even think goth country exhisted or that it was a good thing.....if it did. Now I have some stuff to check out.
