Like my father always told me.

When shit happens, you'll only have your family, because your friends will most likely take a hike.

personally, i prefer to rely on myself, because in my experience, even family can take a hike, and if they don't, they expect you to be indebted to them for eternity... both friends and family are impermanent, when it comes to relationships, imo - nobody is indispensable.

but then again this is the safe approach, the giving of self only to limited degrees in order to avoid the long term effects of a potential fallout.

I'd rather live with the risk, and beleive while I'm alive.

and some people yes, are indispensible, they change you forever, and you never find anyone like them again once they are gone.

everyone, at some point, needs to look out for #1, and chances are, that's not going to be you - there's nothing wrong with that at all, and it's not a reason to harbor resentment or anger towards another, but it's a truth i think too many people don't take into account, and then they get mad that they've been "let down" by someone they "thought they could count on"... all i've done is make myself aware that there will be times that i'm not the most important thing in someone else's life, so i should do my best to take care of my own issues.

and some people yes, are indispensible, they change you forever, and you never find anyone like them again once they are gone.

if a person brings something of value into your life, then yes, i could possibly agree with that, however, if said person becomes a mental/emotional/financial/other kind of drain on you, and they're not willing to help themselves/change or they like themselves the way they are, then sometimes, you (generic) need to move on and let the person continue on their own divergent path without you. again, there's nothing wrong with that - recognize that the person is no longer healthy for you, wish them well, and move ahead with your own life. and i can say this without hesitation - i don't care who the person is, a friend, a lover, my sister, my grandma, or even my mother... i refuse to allow negativity in my life. i will always care for the people who have shared time in my life, and i'm grateful for the experience of having gotten to know them, but they don't owe me anything, nor i them, and i guess that's what i mean by indispensable. gods, i hope that makes some kind of sense!? :blink

So... you're not making a statement?

How can I when I don't dress like that around them. They just are so much part of the herd. I am trying to be a shepard.

Oh no you DINT!

... I am the only one in my family without serious mental illnesses. I have issues, don't get me wrong -- Mine just happen to be physical instead.

For whatever reason, I thought this thread was about bad television shows.

Personally I was raised with a strong family backing. I was raised that family comes first then your friends.

Basically blood is thicker then water.

But if you can't get along with your family then don't deal with them. But you can still love them and care for them. Doesn't mean you have to see eye to eye.

Yes, I never said that I don't love them. My aunt is accusing my mom of wanting to have a "show-down",that is what she calls it...whatever it means. They do not like the fact that I am a non-conformist, and implying to me that it is not being responcible.

well my parents are goth and they tried to make me goth so I bought a suit and became normal. Neil Diamond was part of my rebelious stage.

The whole meaning of Goth is not to be something to rebel about. It is a state of mind and part of who you are. I am no poser all this goth philosophy was in me to begin with.
