What is going on out there in the free agent market?

In just one week Detroit has lost 3 huge sports stars.

Ben Wallace turned down a 4 year contract worth over $49 million dollars to return to the Pistons and instead signed a 4 year deal with the Chicago Bulls worth over $60 million.

Brendan Shanahan was given the opportunity to stay in Detroit for a 10th season with the Red Wings but instead he signed a $4 million one year contract with the New York Rangers. He's the second Red Wing to say goodbye to the Wings this offseason, joining longtime captain Steve Yzerman who announced his retirement earlier in the week.

Most sports players don't really have dedication to a team; they can't afford to. A great deal of the players on any given team don't even come from that city. Why should they be loyal to anything other than their paychecks?

The only Detroit team I half-assedly follow is the Lions because

A. I like football, and

B. I'm a masochist.

I think I followed them the most closely in the 2001-02 season when they lost the first TEN GAMES. Then they won on my birthday. I was there.

There is no loyalty and taking a 60 mil contract over a 49 mil one proves it, obviously he can afford loyalty....just choses not too.
