Brenda Starrr Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Occasionally, I do a review on a cosmetic product that I think is worthwhile. Nine times out of ten, it's an expensive product. Not this time! This time, it's a budget item. Maybelline Superstay Lip Color You know how long-wearing lip colors feel heavy, dry, or waxy? This one is light and full of moisture, and even comes in some gothy shades (sorry, no black!). If you use up all the balm, you can buy a refill for it, too. Target usually has them for $7.99, drugstores seem to be higher. Good stuff.
Homicidalheathen Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 So it lasts though, through drinking and whatnot???
Brenda Starrr Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 It doesn't do too shabby with the whatnot, either.
Nienna Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Sweet! Thanks for the review! I've been looking for an alternative to the lipfinity which makes my lips look like shriveled rasins by the end of the night.
Brenda Starrr Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 I hate Lipfinity! It's so............dry.

Good stuff. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i use it. i found though that if you use the balm stuff though that it makes the lipstick a bit clumpy if you do reapply, hence i find it works better with just the color.
ManicQueen Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I thought about trying this product but I thought it might be like the rest of them.. yucky. I'm gonna go hit up Target tomorrow and get some.. If it's good enough for Brenda's lips then it's good enough for mine :grin :laughing

You HAVE to give it a good minute before you put the balm on. You also may not be starting with clean, dry lips. Or, you're using too much of the color. I'm a pro makeup artist. It's my job to know these things.

Homicidalheathen Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I am thinking the balm might be a good thing. This Revlon color stay is like dry wax and they are discontinuing colors left and right! I guess they might be removing it from the shelves soon?

And yes, the balm is a necessity in the Maybelline product!
BrassFusion Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I'll grab it up and try it next time i hit the club. =)
Brenda Starrr Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 Oooh! Update: The gothiest color that they make thus far: Wine. I highly recommend it.

I highly recommend it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Christ amighty, I went and bought it a coupla weeks ago and guess what color I bought. That's right. WINE. Now ALL the girls are going to be wearing red lipstick! What have you done?
Brenda Starrr Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 I've created a monster! Muah-ha-haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
pomba gira Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I love girl talk HEE HEE! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ' You should check out Cosmetic Connection... they do good "real-woman" reviews of makeup & skin care stuff. The nice thing is they review high-end and drugstore lines so they talk about products in just about every price range. I've been getting the newsletter for close to 10 years & it has yet to disappoint.
ManicQueen Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I've been using this stuff since Brenda started the topic. I love it. I wear it almost everyday and it hasn't let me down so far and that says a lot since I work outdoors and I sweat like a whore in church.

Fierce Critter Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 On Brenda's review, I gave this stuff a try. I LOVE IT. It's great. I wear a mauvy/wine color for daywear, and they had two shades that BOTH work great. I'll be trying the "Wine" shade for evening wear. They really need to come out with darker colors, too. I like a dry, bloody red for my lips, and right now I've got 10 tubes of a discontinued Cover Girl Outlast shade for that purpose, but it's a dryer formula.
Fierce Critter Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 By the way, today was a great day to test it. First off, I prefer to forego the topcoat (same thing with Cover Girl Outlast) and use Burt's Bees lipbalm instead. It did fine with that. We went to the Michigan State Fair today. On the way, we grabbed a burger from McDonald's, and the Maybelline did great against a cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce. It also held up to a corn dog and smooches from Jon. GREAT recommendation, Brenda. I can't afford cosmetics from companies like MAC or Sephora, and it's great to find budget make-up that actually works well like this.
BrassFusion Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Yeah, this has been my CC lipstick for about a month now. It's a real trooper, most of the time. =D

I'm in total agreement with the need for darker colors. I'd love to see a true purple and a blood red that's almost black.
Fierce Critter Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 More update: The lipstick lasted all day on me, with just a touch of fading after inflicting much testing on it. It refreshed well with repeated applications of my preferred Burts' Bees lip balm. (Too bad this doesn't have the topcoat in a separate tube like the Cover Girl, 'cause I could give all you users of the Maybelline my topcoat.) I used mineral oil to very easily remove it, just like the Cover Girl Outlast. I agree with the need for purple shades, as well as a super-dark red. CG Outlast came in a color that was a great, dark purple, and I have one single tube of it left, even the supplier from whom I got the 10 tubes of the dark red shade couldn't come up with the purple shade - I tried to get some for Onyx. There are several lines of makeup for African American skintones out there that I keep hoping will get into the all-day lipstick arena 'cause they have such wonderful, dark shades of lipstick in general. Somehow I don't think Maybelline, CG or any of the others would come out with dark shades just upon petition of all us gothy-grrlz.
