Paper Hearts Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Just talking about this last night with a friend... Obviously, I sited Iggy Pop or the Sex Pistols...because they beat the hell out of themselves...and invented the stage dive and things like that, but there's also those big heavy metal acts like Alice Cooper or Ozzy that had all the big props and lighting and that mess. The best performance I've witnessed...probably went to the Ruiners...or...yeah, shoot, I can't remember half the shows I've been to. Anyway, I'm just interested to see what other people have to say, here...because I'm really bored.
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 ive seen metallica. they were pretty good. but maybe not the best ever.
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 what about the best place to see concerts? i like a good outdoor venue. theres something about a great summer day and a good show.
Gothmama25 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 what about the best place to see concerts?i like a good outdoor venue. theres something about a great summer day and a good show. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> outdoors are always the best. how about which band sounds good recorded but you wouldnt wanna hear live?
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 suicidal tendancies. i saw them with danzig and metallica years ago. not saying they are the greatest recording band either, but they certainly sucked live. i was also less than impressed by thrill kill kult when i saw them. thats probably a better example.
Gothmama25 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I thought kid rock sucked live but was better on the album.
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 i remember kid rock from back in the 90s. :laughing
Gothmama25 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 i remember kid rock from back in the 90s. :laughing <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i know that makes me feel old
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 iron maiden? i never got to see them live. wish i could have, back in the day.
Gothmama25 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 thats a good question. how about bands that you wish you could see in concert? i wanna see pantera and rob zombie
paradox Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 ive seen both. together, even. that show was at the palace though. 1st and last time i saw a show there. it sucked. not that they did, the palace did. seats sucked too.
Gothmama25 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 i have never been to the palace. i want to see disturbed and the ozz fest
Reaper Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I saw Disturbed at Ozzfest this year. Along with S.O.A.D. who headlined the main stage. It was a pretty good show and the DTE center was packed.
Scary Guy Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I can't believe no one mentioned Rob Zombie as far as sage presence and props goes. Also The Peperment Creeps. Imagine aliens landing and throwing a concert, that's what their stage setup looked like. Also nice guys. Yeah Alice Cooper is awesome, and Ozzy (who I saw with Rob Zombie in fact at Hallowicked at Cobo a few years ago). Ozzy is so awesome he doesn't even need a stage show, just some lighting and he's fine. Gwar and more recently Lordi as far as monster bands go. Finally Yngwie J Malmsteen who also doesn't need a stage show, just a stack of Marshal speakers behind him and he's set.
Paper Hearts Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 ^Actually, I did bring up Gwar when I was talking to this friend of mine. To me, a good show isn't about props though...I'd much rather have seen Iggy Pop or the Sex Pistols. Or...been at CBGB in 1975. To me it's about energy. I felt like the metal bands were worth metioning though because I've heard of some pretty crazy things going on like Ozzy's infamous bat incident. I could have listed GG Allen, too, but I don't consider the guy a musician.
Scary Guy Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Depends on how you look at it I guess. Every band I mentioned is good, as in not just stage presence and props but in musical tallent as well. The prop show just adds to it a bit is all. After all that's the entire reason people go to the concerts is the music (unless they're actually there for the prop show, but most of those people are in the industry themselves and are just looking for tips).

It's all a matter of taste. I was just responding to your comment about Rob Zombie. I wouldn't list Rob Zombie because I don't get into metal very much--but metal shows are deffinately crazy, I can't deny that, which is why I've listed Alice Cooper and Ozzy. Doesn't matter if I like them or not. But yeah, I would crack up if I went to a show and found stage props and smoke machines were being used...still, it's quite a spectacle and I have to acknowledge that, I think. That said, my personal choices wouldn't include any metal bands.
