Der Nister Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Not sure if anyone here is into it but I am and after doing some searching (with the help of some family) I have found out some pretty cool stuff. Part of my family came over here on the Mayflower (three ancestors). Also, I am related to three Presidents - Zachary Taylor, Franklin D. Roosevelt and George Washington ( the last through FDR). Just thought I'd throw this topic out to see if others may be interested. I myself think it's damn cool to find out who my ancestors are. Thoughts/opinions???

I've heard a family rumor that we're descended from Andrew Jackson, which would be hella sweet. He was a badass.
Gothmama25 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 one of my ancestors signed the declaration of independence
Rayne Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Mine were just a bunch of mostly German some Irish on one side and Native American on the other side.

Steven Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 my grandmother lived in a cave in Mexico for 6 years because her family ran with Pancho Villa and Government was hunting them all.
Brenda Starrr Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I don't know who my ancestors are, but I'll bet they roll over in their grave repeatedly after some of the crap I say.
ManicQueen Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I've wanted to get into this for some years now. Maybe I'll start this week since I don't have anything to do. I know my dad has a lot of info on his side.
AstralCrux Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 We've traced my grandpa's family back to William Wallace. I'm a 3rd generation american, so nothing digs back to far in this country.

Homicidalheathen Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 We be the same breed. I did have someone trace 1/2 my tree and write a book about it. Some pretty powerful white families on both sides....but.....I don't really care much. Some of my family members are proud of it or something. Mine were just a bunch of mostly German some Irish on one side and Native American on the other side. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hellion Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 :devil I know we have alot of German in our family, but my aunt out in California, told me that there are more nationalities in the family, more than I thought, she knows more than I or my mom do,we also have Schandinavian, some native American,Scottish, etc, etc, etc. She did a whole lot of research.
Paper Hearts Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I don't think it means much to be able to say your related to someone famous, but it is sort of interesting. I have an ancestor who was one of the 13 men on the Lewis and Clark expedition... He was a taken on because he was one one of the best shots in the army, and he could also speak several native languages--so he led the hunting parties and acted as interpreter. If anyone knows a bit about the Lewis and Clark expedition, you'll know that they ran into some trouble with the Su and Blackfoot tribes, narrowly escaped death at their respective hands. Upon surviving the treck and returning to Chicago, he and a couple of the other surviving members got piss drunk and became filled with wanderlust. He and these others decided to go back out west the way they had gone with Lewis and Clark and were killed by Blackfoot Indians. My family tree is full of wild personalities and people who've met violent ends. So I'm looking forward to that knife fight or whatever to happen any time soon, for me.
sass_in_the_pants Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I found out that my ancestors were mostly just horse thieves. The rest were priests, who eventually left the priesthood and became horse thieves. It's a piss poor history, but somebody's got to own up to it I suppose.
Der Nister Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 I've wanted to get into this for some years now. Maybe I'll start this week since I don't have anything to do. I know my dad has a lot of info on his side. You'd be surprised at what you find when you start looking into it. I've always just had a curiosity of where my family came from and whom my ancestors are. To some it may seem dull but I like knowing. It also looks like we have a lot of Germans here.
Msterbeau Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 My grandpa told us we trace back to General PT Beauregard... a civil war general who commanded troops very early in the war. The battle was at Bull Run. Apparently he was also notorious for being a ladies man...
DarkVampire Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I had a lot of information on my family bloodlines. I used the Family Tree software and others on the internet to trace my roots. I could trace part of my mothers family to 1400's England. Then my hard drive crashed and I lost just about everything except for a few things I had printed out prior. =(
